Sony patents Vita with HDMI port

Sony has filed a patent for a Vita equipped with a number of new input and output ports, including one for HDMI. The patent is detailed on Patentbolt, and patent was filed last year but has only recently been published; there’s nothing to suggest Sony isn’t just crossing legal T’s and dotting patent I’s, as PSN Stores reports the patent describes a Vita dev kit.

That is a good idea, but as an early adopter i’m pissed if they will announce it.

Same here man. This isn’t the kind of stuff they couldn’t have implemented from the start. Watch this getting announced on February 20th along with the PS4.

You might want make sure this is not a patent for a Dev unit. Journalism is dead.

[Update] We’ve heard from a reader familiar with the Vita’s development hardware that this could be the patent application for the devkit.

I’d love to see the PS Vita support video output. It sucks recording off-screen and trying stay quiet while recording.

That looks near identical to the dev kits we used when it was still NGP. I remember being quite pissed off the finished model didn’t come with an HDMI port – would have been really handy for screengrabs/video.

What is the point of HDMI input if there are no new games on the damn thing to show on the screen.

Pointless. Make GAMES not new hardware.
