EA redirects Free4Play to new Origin Free To Play

Play4Free, EA’s free to play collection of games, is being rebranded by Electronic Arts as Origin Free To Play and players will be redirected to the Origin site this week.

EA announced this, courtesy of Polygon, and say that the only thing that will change is a URL. “What changes for our players? Other than a new destination URL, nothing about the games has changed,” writes EA Vice President Sean Decker on the publisher’s The Beat blog.

Battlefield Heroes, Need for Speed World, Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances and others are all included in the current Play4Free collection, currently being integrated with Origin, which EA boasts will be “single destination for paid downloadable PC games and free-to-play games alike.”

Current Origin ID holders won’t need to make new accounts according to Decker. The EA Store was replaced by Origin in 2011 reportedly having 30 million user, 15 million less that its Play4Free community.

30million my foot. Everytime someones buys a console game from, the company tries as hard as they can to get that person to create an origin account.

Sure there might be 30 million accounts created. It isn’t as impressive as it sounds. Hell, I have four or five of them myself from varrious games that held content or features over my head unless I had an EA account.

Free4Play… hmm, that’s the name of a porn flick if I ever heard one :)

Anyway, numbers are impressive but they don’t provide context… As with every company, we can only guess most of these accounts are inactive. The real activity numbers will probably never see the light of day for the common mortal :)

@1, yeah, I think every EA sports game makes you create a new account right?
@2, definitely a porn flick, that’s what I thought writing it. Haha.
