PopCap to make AAA title for consoles

The studio behind Plants Vs. Zombies, Bejeweled and Peggle has posted an ad in search of a generalist software engineer to build a AAA console title and with experience using the Frostbite 2 engine.

The news comes courtesy of Joystiq and lists animation, audio, resource management, pipelines and visual effects as included in the job description.

Without offering much more information, the news opens up speculation on what PopCap titles could be making a move to console.

That… entirely misses the point of buying PopCap…

We are the Electronic Arts. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

First Nintendo finds out the limits of going after the softcore, and now Pop cap comes to its senses. I wonder if there are still fools out there who believe there’s any future in the softcore audience. So much for the idea of consoles being doomed.

OK, I’m just dumb-founded by this. More than certain Pop-Cap’s capable of a great AAA console experience, but working with Frostbite 2? If the studio using it isn’t named DICE, it’s almost like why even try (eyes Danger Close and Black Box)? Because it seems like DICE is the only that knows how to proper utilize Frostbite 2 (and yea, I get that they’re the ones who created it). Though what I mean is that it doesn’t seem like EA is allocating resources properly, so that development transition from tools they were using previously, to tools for Frostbite 2, isn’t so jarring, and the final product they’re making isn’t a steaming pile of crap.

See, PopCap were the best at what they were doing. And they were making a particular kind of game for a particular audience. This move is a mistake…

Fuck that, I want Plants vs. Zombies 2, damn it! It’s been WAY too long!

Although… seeing how there are AAAAA games now (and I guess soon, games will be measured in KA’s. And considering the ever increasing stupification of western societies, I can already hear it… “What’s that KA stand for?” – “Dude… Kilo-Awesome of course!” – “Hehehe, it like totally is!”), maybe it IS Plants vs. Zombies 2?
