Doom 3: BFG Edition is out now on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, but the original build has been pulled from sale on Steam.

Videogamer reports that the game has disappeared from the Steam marketplace, and that it can only be bought as part of the £75.99 Super id Software Pack. Doom 3 did cost £13.99 before it was pulled, and the new BFG Edition comes in at £19.99.

Doom 3: BFG Edition has received a mixed bag of reviews, suggesting that it hasn’t aged well. Check them all out here:

Despite all that hate, I like it. Runs smooth on the PS3 and for me as a collector its THE Doom Collection.

@2 yeah I like it too. It’s old, sure, and the mechanics are dated in parts, but it’s not meant to be totally new, it’s a fun relic for fans.

This sucks because the recent Thief remake requires the original Doom 3 to run, it doesn’t work with Doom 3 BFG

That’s unfortunate, but it’s not at all difficult to find a far cheaper retail copy of the original, if you’re looking to play it.

I think it’s a petty move. If someone wants to play the BFG, then he’ll order a copy of that. Restricting access to the original will only negatively impact id.
In fact, it’s not petty, it’s a narrow-minded and completely stupid thing to do.

I’m always amused by how many people don’t realise that they completely butchered the engine. The lighting is terrible, it’s baked rather than dynamic (whyyyy?), and mods don’t work.

And Id is trying to force this version of Doom III that can’t be modded on people. Don’t let them. This is decidedly uncool.

Get the word out there: Get the original Doom III, not this. Not to mention that the lost mission is just a copypasta of the original game. Being able to run mods like The Dark Mod is much more important than being able to play that absolutely awful and decidedly cynical ‘lost mission’ thing. That was a complete rip-off.

So really, people, don’t buy the BFG edition. Okay?

    You were warned.

We just need to run a simple negative campaign around ID. They don’t have a card to play after the failure that was Rage.

ID suck. Reinstate the original version of Doom 3.
