The Secret World designer named as post-launch content director

The Secret World's lead content designer has segued neatly into a new position of game director, putting him in charge of the MMORPG's planned monthly content updates.

Joel Bylos will work alongside creative director Ragnar Tørnquist to shape the game's ongoing development. Tørnquist will turn his attention more closely to story and setting while Bylos takes on more of the nitty-gritties.

"Being given the opportunity to lead the game into a bold, new future is definitely a dream come true for me,” Bylos said of the appointment.

"The Secret World is only really getting started, and with a game world that draws upon our own, real world, there is no limit to what sort of amazing stories we can tell and fantastic locations we can visit in the upcoming content updates.”

“Joel and I have worked together for many years, and I cannot think of anyone more suited to maintain the vision and lead the game going forward than him,” Tørnquist said.

"I especially look forward to spending more time expanding on what I truly enjoy the most about The Secret World: the story, characters and the setting itself.”

In case you were wondering why Funcom's internal appointments are of interest to you, the gamer, it's because it's a demonstration of the company's commitment to continuing content updates for the MMORPG, which didn't perform as well as expected at launch. After significant staff cuts, The Secret World is making money - but it's still reassuring to hear Funcom intend to follow through on its promise. Issue #2 launched last week, and a third is planned for October.

Bylos also recently took on the important role of being my penpal.
