EA: “We don’t have plans to include female players in FIFA”

Tuesday, 14th August 2012 09:37 GMT By Nick Akerman

FIFA executive producer David Rutter has calmed talk of female players being added to the franchise.

“We get literally thousands upon thousands of suggestions from our fans for new features and we have to evaluate those suggestions, such as the inclusion of female players in the game, against our resources, priorities and overall fan feedback. At present, we don’t have plans to include female players in the game,” Rutter told CVG.

After a hugely successful women’s football event at the London Olympics, a petition was set up to try and get female footballers into the next title.

Women’s football has won major plaudits across the last two weeks. Many of the teams performed well on the big stage, and combined with greater exposure, have roused the interest of many who would usually overlook it.

Unfortunately, not enough for EA to consider throwing them in with the men. Possible DLC? Probably not.

What I’d love to see: An indie developer create something like PES, with far superior gameplay to Fifa, and women only. That’d be amusing.

@2: Well, they should. Limiting that to a female avatar is kind of degrading in the first place.

Sheesh. I’ve said it elsewhere, but you have films, TV shows, books, comic books, radio shows, and all manner of other mediums ecstatically promoting ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender equality. The only stand out example of hugely regressive attitudes is gaming.

    That should be fixed.

Its not that hard really they had the complete code, they only need to add long hairs and change the names to chicharita, Ronalda, Vana Persia, etc, :)

The simple fact that we need to show equality in everything shows how frail most people’s mentalities are.

FIFA not having women football isn’t lack of equality. It is a professional MEN football simulator. Nothing wrong with that.
