Neo Geo Gold priced and dated

The Neo Geo was confirmed for a return in January, but now an official price and release date have been announced.

It’s not much to get excited about. The Neo Geo Gold, a device that plays games from two decades ago, will be available for $200. To put that into perspective, you could snap up the latest console from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo for a similar price.

The handheld comes with pre-installed games, a docking station and a replica arcade stick, but this hardly softens the blow of the price.

Here’s the full list of pre-installed titles:

3 Count Bout
League Bowling
Art of Fighting II
Magician Lord
Alpha Mission II
Metal Slug
Baseball Stars II
Mutation Nation
Cyber Lip
Nam 1975
Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury Special
Real Bout – Fatal Fury Special
The King of Fighters ’95
Samurai Shodown II
King of the Monsters
Super Sidekicks
Last Resort
World Heroes Perfect

The Neo Geo Gold will be released worldwide on December 6. Thanks to Kotaku for the heads up.

This is a mistake. People got tired of waiting, and got MAME instead. Yes it isn’t legal but what were the other options?

Also why is it so expensive? ;/

@silkvg247 I wish …. I wish that I correctly install Mame for once. It always ends up not working :(

Couldn’t we just buy the same games on PSN or Wii? I own an AES. Nice but as they age finiky sometimes. And for the price tag, I would have expected more games. Like all of the games. It is basicly an emulater.

And to be honest, some of these games haven’t aged very well.

Seems like a bonehead move to me. Why not put some focused into making new games? Even if they modernize some older franchise brands with new updated versions with modern sensibilites. I would buy a new Shock Troppers. Or Alpha Missions.
