Black Forest Games has launched a Kickstarter to bring back The Great Giana Sisters as an all-new platformer.
According to the Project Giana Kickstarter, the new version has a bit of a twist. Players can switch between the “cutie” or “punkie” sister – the two are now a single girl exploring in a dream world – at will, which will also change the environment around the player.
Black Forest Games is a natural choice to pick up the property; it was founded by the core team of the now-defunct Spellbound Games, which released the DS Giana Sisters game in 2009. Spellbound was in turn founded by the late Armin Gessert, one of the original creators of the 1987 original.
The Great Giana Sisters is most famous for being a knock-off of Super Mario Bros.; Nintendo’s legal fuss meant the colourful platformer was withdrawn from sale almost immediately, although everyone with a Commodore 64 seemed to have it anyway.
The new game is due in October on PC, with console networks to follow. The Kickstarter is looking for $150,000. Check out the pitch below.
