Kaz Hirai has stepped aside from his role as representative director and chairman on the Sony Computer Entertainment board. Hirai became CEO and president of the Sony Corporation on April 1. Thanks, GI.

Wow. I knew they were pissed at the management over the financials but I didn’t think he’s step aside from this post.

@3 He is still President and CEO of Sony as a whole, the position he started in April, but no longer chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment.

For anyone confuse by this, almost one year ago Kaz was promoted to Rep and Chariman of SCE. Last April he was promoted to President and CEO of Sony Corp which used to be Howard Stringers role and boss of Kaz when he was merely the Chairman of SCE. Before today Kaz has the title of President and CEO of Sony AND Representative and Chairman of SCE. He is just leaving the job he used to have before his promotion.

Wow, this is something of a non-story then, right? At the very least the GI piece is misleading. Title makes it sound like he’s leaving Sony.

I dunno, its sort of important. He’ll make the final call for the PS division, but he won’t have anywhere near the influence he used to have. I guess it depends on whom his successor is, because they have the potential to boost the brand above rivals if they play smart – they could make a lot of changes that Kaz might not have wanted to make, or never even thought of.

Still, article (and VG247 title) are a LITTLE misleading. Hearing the CEO is dropping his job is likely to make anyone gawk.
