Vita sales surge in Japan thanks to Persona 4 The Golden

Media Create has released its weekly retail chart for Japan, and thanks to the release of Persona 4 the Golden Vita sales surged to 34,459 units compared to last week’s 13,383 units, giving it a second place spot on the hardware charts.

Here’s the full top 20 covering June 11 through June 17. Last week’s sales are in parentheses.

    Damn, I clicked this story expecting the full title to be Persona 4 The Golden Shower. Amusement aside, it has to be said that Japan’s quirkiness, chibi heads and creepy sexual overtones don’t translate too well these days.

    There’s nothing I’d be interested in playing for more than five minutes in that list.

    @1 Okay, it has quirkiness, but Persona has never needed to rely either on chibi designs or creepy sexual overtones (which I will admit far too much anime has) to sell.

    It’s one of the few Japanese franchises I can think off that can hold its own on the back of its story and presentation, without relying on anything like that.

    And thes gam’s storylines also deal with a number of serious and relevant topics, the kind you never see in “mature” western games, so it can’t be accused of the common problem of Japanese naiveity prevalent in a lot of the country’s media either.

    I dunno that still looks fairly Chibi to me.
    Can’t really comment though, never played it. I have been considering it though, when’s the Europe release?
