Worms creator Andy Davidson returns to Team 17

The original creator of Worms, Andy Davidson, has returned to Team 17 after years away from the developer and franchise.

After announcing Worms Revolution just a few days ago, Team 17 has confirmed that the original creator of the rocket launcher wielding critters will be returning to the studio to work on the title.

“I left Team17 feeling I hadn’t finished what I wanted to achieve, but for professional reasons I knew I had to walk away,” Davidson said in a statement today.

“I’ve returned to scratch the creative itch that’s been bothering me for the last fourteen years. It’s nice to be back at Team17, it’s as though there’s been a revolution in the studio itself – there’s a real creative buzz about the place.”

Team 17 confirmed that he would be helping out the Worms Revolution team but also working on new game ideas that have been brewing in his time away from the industry.

“The engine and physics in Worms Revolution are awesome,” he commented. “The team have developed a truly landmark game. I’ll be lending them my insight to ensure that the game balance is true to the spirit of the brand.”

I’m hoping for two things after reading theses news:

1. Team 17 finally making a true, decent Worms games after years of mediocre cash-ins (Since World Party).
2. They finally make a GOOD game that’s NOT named Worms. I know they had a few decent titles way back but during the last decade, their non-worms games have been really bad.

@ #1: Worms 2: Armageddon on XBLA and PSn is *awesome* – what’s wrong with it? It’s my fave version of Worms since the first!

Also, I thought the new Alien Breed games were pretty fucking awesome too (especially the second and third parts, not so much the first part).

Dude, Armageddon’s OLD! PSN / XBLA version is a simple port of a classic before even the Worms World Party.
