InXile founder and Wasteland designer Brian Fargo has said a sequel to the classic RPG requires a decent financial committment.
“I know there was concern with the amount we requested but we could not have done WL2 justice with just 300-400k,” Fargo said on Twitter.
At time of writing, the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter is just under $13,000 from its $900,000 goal; Fargo is fronting the final $100,000 himself should it prove necessary.
The unusual nature of a crowdfunded project means Fargo is much more communicative about the project than is usual during the early stages of development, openly debating gameplay mechanics with fans.
“We are leaning towards isometric but we want to show some screens in our forum for fan feedback. You guys are my new boss after all,” he said.
Fargo has given away a few snippets about the game’s direction, noting that players can create their own parties or use pre-configured characters and that the game will be violent.
“Edgier the better,” he noted.
