Footage from canned THQ game Avenger leaked
What appears to be footage from THQ’s canned Avengers game has made its way to Reddit.

The footage is from the first-person superhero game Avengers, which THQ shelved along with two other franchises – MX vs ATV and Red Faction – back in August, resulting in the loss of over 200 jobs.
The game was to release as a tie-in for the upcoming Avengers movie, which is due later this year.
The trailer shows various members of the Avengers in action, and contains plenty of gameplay footage. Outside of this however, nothing else is known about the game.
Watch the trailer below.
Thanks, 1Up.

Can’t believe it. THQ canned one of the best looking tie-in ever created. Uhm, well, one of the best looking pre-alpha tie-in ever created. LOL

Oh. come. on.
If leaked footage of a canned The smurfs the movie videogame were found online people would extintively give it praise and wonder why it’ll never come out. This footage here looks ok, but then thats what tie-ins always are… “ok”, at best.
Point is, the less of these flippin’ movie tie-ins that are released, the better. Find other ways to milk money from the marvel franchise CEOs. Leave us gamers out of it, It’s hard enough with the choice we do have with all the copy and paste FPS out these days.
Nuff. bloody. said.

WTF was THQ thinking? It looks like one of the best Marvel games I’ve ever seen and could be a great movie game on par with Spidey 2 or Riddick. Shame on THQ for cancelling this as well as destroying the team behind it.

Yeah, it looked like it had some seriouse potential but also looked like it still needed a ton of work and money putt into it.
Something license products do not get. This would not have been finished next year to release with the film. So it was canceled.
If your buiseness is to make shitty movie tie-ins you are not going to spend a ton of money to make a good one.

Quite impressive.
Makes me wonder what Danny Bilson was smoking when he issued the order to cancel this game.

Looks dull and very un-fun to play.

As much as I’d love to play anything with Captain America in it, there’s absolutely nothing in that video that really distinguishes it from standard shovelware.
Just as with True Crime: Hong Kong, people are just easily sold on a few minutes of footage, instantly making it the worlds best game that never was, likely because you never had the chance to see the finished product.
I guess it’s fair enough to want what you can’t have, and with publishers like THQ and Activision churning out quite a few crappy games, I guess it’s fair enough to smite them for not putting out even more crappy games.

It was a first person melee focussed game, that’s about as non standard as you can get, add in the team factor and you have something really interesting.
But ambition costs time and money to get right, a license game has neither.
The question that should be asked is: how did something so obviously expensive to make ever get greenlit to begin with?

@9, AvP was a very enjoyable game which is both first person melee orientated & licensed.

I fail to see what anyone is seeing in this video.
The abilities look interesting in theory, but in actual gameplay they don’t look particularly functional in a lot of places, and the whole thing reeks of lacking depth. The combat looks incredibly repetitive and boring.

AvP also diden’t need to launch in time with a movie, this did. It would never have made it in time.
