Otherland announcement trailer is out of this world
What’s 260 seconds long and goes a bit mental after the first 20 seconds? Why, that’ll be the new trailer outlining an outlandish new free-to-play MMO based on the books of Tad Williams, of course. Video below.
Looking a bit like the craziest dream that the craziest person might have had after drinking crazy juice, the Otherland trailer shows off numerous game worlds, themes and demented looking inhabitants. It also looks very pretty, thanks to it being powered by the ubiquitous Unreal Engine 3.
Its premise is one of virtual reality – which explains the varied themes running throughout – and it will continue the storyline of the books, according to an interview that IGN has posted with the developers.
Check out the trailer, paying particular attention to the decidedly dodgy looking chap at 2:40.
Otherland is set for a PC release in 2012.

Huh, an interesting — and rather meta — idea for an MMO. Although it’s been several years since I read the books, I seem to recall the virtual space essentially being the internet as Second Life, with all the depravity that would suggest.

I don’t understand…
So, you go around sucking sap out of tree’s and rocks that allows you to kill people, and transform into whatever you want? If that is the case, there is a lot of wasted environment space in this game it seems… Speaking of the environment I found it very hard to enjoy with all that rapid camera panning and swapping.

Interesting. This looks like what Home should have been.
