BBC to go into global indie games publishing

The BBC's commercial arm is set to begin publishing independent games as early as next month.

"We really want to start motivating British development talent," executive producer Simon Harris said, speaking at Develop yesterday.

"In a few weeks time you will see our first initiative around UK indies. We’ve come up with a plan and we are working with a couple of indies already, looking to get them into business outside of the UK.

“We have Facebook titles under development, were working on consoles, Flash and XBLA and PSN. Over the next year you will hopefully start seeing a lot of innovation from us.”

Several unrevealed UK studios are said to be on board.

Harris said the UK is a "really good, really substantial" market for games, but it needs to go global to be "really successful" with publishing.

Thanks, Gamasutra.
