Torchlight sells 1 million units across all platforms

Runic Games has announced Torchlight has now sold 1 million copies across all platforms since being released in October 2009.

The RPG hit the million mark after the XBLA Deal of the Week promotion and Steam sale over the July 4 holiday.

The game sold 500,000 copies during its first six months on the market on PC before being released on Mac and then XBLA in March 2010.

“We’re very excited to share Torchlight’s success with our fans and supporters,” said Runic president Travis Baldree. “It’s been a great ride so far and we can’t wait to give everyone more of what they want in Torchlight II.

“It isn’t every day you sell a million games. We’re grateful to be here.”

Torchlight II is expected to be released sometime this summer after its initial spring release was delayed.

Thanks, Gamasutra.

Torchlight is great, I’m glad that they stuck with it and really pushed themselves to get the game to where it is now. I bet Torchlight 2 will do really well day one now Runic know how to sell it and the fanbase knows what it is.

I think it deserved better sales than that actually. It was dirt cheap, even on release.

It certainly did nothing new, and it didn’t have a unique artstyle like Deathspank, but it’s got my vote for the best shot of hack n slash between here and Diablo 3. Or maybe Torchlight 2.
