Report – FFVII, FFVIII uploaded to Steam “for months” by Square

Thursday, 23rd June 2011 14:26 GMT By Johnny Cullen

PC versions of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII have been uploaded to Steam “for months,” according to an RPGSite report, but have not been released to the public.

The SKUs uploaded to the service are from the PC ports that were released from Eidos in 1998 and 2000.

The site claims that files for both games have even been edited from what it originally was to have it run on modern OS systems. A site source, however, adds that both FFVII and VIII crash “frequently” on Windows 7.

It’s because of this that any possible releases are most likely dead in the water.

The files were last updated back in early 2010, according to RPGSite.

There’s more through the link.

    i had a playstation 2 a year ago and tried out the so-much-praised final fantasy vii and it was pretty enjoyable at the beginning. the story made sense and wasn’t pretentious but after leaving the first city (midgar) everything got worse. a gothic guy with gray long hair dressed in black trying to destroy/take over the world sounds more like a fantasy story for weirdos.

    if they could have at least tried to explain more things it would have helped, but then it would have made sense and that’s not possible in japanese games.

    i suspect it was the first ff that was more accessible to a wider audience (difficulty, themes) and that’s why it was so successful. in adolescent and pre-puberty circles, at least.

    not trying to offend anyone, but that’s my impression.

    @3 if you would keep on playing you would know why he tryes to destroy the planet, who whe is and so on. Everything is explained in the game, just need time to get to the point where everything is explained.

    @3

    Burn in a fire slowly for the sheer fact you are commenting on a game you barely played. Final Fantasy VII gets way bigger than that.
