Levine: BioShock Vita is new game, not Infinite

Irrational boss Ken Levine has confirmed that his new BioShock project for Vita will be a brand new game in the series’ universe.

Speaking to IGN, Levine said it wasn’t a redeux of the first BioShock or a Vita version of Infinite, though.

“It’s a different project. It’s its own thing being built from the ground up,” he said.

“That is going to be strange and surprising to people. I think we always want to surprise people. If I’m just saying ‘here’s BioShock 1 on Vita’, that’s something we could potentially do, but you don’t need us to do that. Somebody can make that happen.”

Levine confirmed on stage during the Sony press conference on Monday that he was working on the BioShock Vita project, but wouldn’t get into specifics.

I’ll be interested to see if new, proper games come out for the Vita. i.e. not just ports of big-console stuff and not just token spin-off titles. This could be a good indication of what’s to come.

Aye, agreed Blerk. Sony appears to have realised that making proper titles for the Vita is a very good idea. I think the UK pricing of this thing is very high (a few years back I could have bought any console at launch for £300), but if they’re going to treat it as a mature console, I could definitely be convinced to fork out for it.

The noises they’re making about the big titles suggests they’re going to be fully fleshed out. The Vita could be a joy if that’s true.
