19,000 visitors hit GDC 2011, 2012 event dated

GDC organisers ThinkServices has confirmed that over 19,000 people visited the event last week.

Organisers have called the attendance a "record". Last year's number was at 18,000.

This year's keynote was given by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, with key talks from Sony on NGP and Epic's Cliff Bleszinski also the main talking points of the show.

ThinkServices has also dated GDC 2012, confirming it'll take place on Monday, March 5 - Friday, March 9, 2012.

"The past week of GDC truly embodied the passion and spirit of the video game community," said GDC director, Meggan Scavio.

"From seasoned game veterans to aspiring game professionals in areas spanning social and online games through major console titles and beyond, we are honored to continue to serve the industry."
