Rumour: Company of Heroes Online to close permanently

Wednesday, 2nd February 2011 00:02 GMT By Brenna Hillier

The Company of Heroes Online open beta is drawing to a close, but nobody seems very happy about it. A post on the game’s official website contains ominous hints that the multiplayer battler will not see the light of full release.

“We will be closing Open Beta on March 31, 2011 to evaluate the next steps for the Company of Heroes series,” an admin wrote.

“We sincerely appreciate your participation, support, and feedback in helping us to design the future of the Company of Heroes franchise,” the post concludes, reiterating that Relic is “excited to reveal the next evolution of the series in the near future.”

No suggestion was made of an impending full release, despite recent additional content.

THQ is offering beta participants registered prior to February 1 a steep discount on Company of Heroes Gold Edition, premium companion to the free-to-play Company of Heroes Online.

Thanks, RPS.

I actually hope this would fail, Relic was basing the future of the Dawn of War franchise on this & I’m personally not a fan of this game’s style.
I’d actually love for them to return to the original Dawn of War style which was more RTS than whatever DoW2 was trying to be.

^ I totally agree. the first dawn of war was one of the best RTS games I’ve played along with company of heroes but I never really liked the online only approach or dawn of war 2!

I really liked the single player in Dawn of War 2… not a big fan on the multiplayer though. 3v3 is good but 1v1 is horrible.

Yeh, I like the Single Player & enjoy The Last Stand(curious to know if Space Marine will adapt it), but the multiplayer is quite boring.
If any of you still have Dark Crusade, i would recommend to try the Firestorm Over Kronus mod, not incredibly balanced, but it’s closer to the tabletop(if you’re into it, I’m not) but also has a shitload more units.
