Japanese hardware charts Nov. 22-28: PS3 sales double thanks to GT5 bundle

Sony received a boost in PS3 sales for the week of November 22-28 in Japan, thanks in part to Gran Turismo 5 being bundled with a shiny blue version of the console.

While the racer was also offered as a stand-alone item, Media Create has listed the bundled version in with the overall sales of the title, which hit over 430K units. Last week, PS3 moved 29,058 units, and during GT5 week it moved 68,840 units total.

Despite the gain in console sales for Sony, its handheld division was once again the clear winner for the week with 77,364 combined units moving through retail - but that's still a drop of over 21,053 unit sales over last week. PS2 even saw a gain in unit sales over the week prior, and moved an additional 77 units.

Will sales were up considerably over the previous week, which more than likely had everything to do with the debut of Mario Sports Mix and the continued success of the Super Mario Collection Special Pack. Each title moved 84,983 and 47,487 units, respectively.

Xbox 360 sales may have tripled with the release of Kinect during the previous reporting period, but sales fell by almost 3,000 units for the week to 4,329 units.

DS Lite sales continue to dissipate while the other offerings in the DS line continue to sell well each week. Combined SKUs for DS hit the 56,457 mark, with DSi LL leading the group. Lifetime to date, the current DS line-up is at 15,983,218 in Japan.
