Steam survey shows most PCs support DirectX 10
A study by Steam has concluded that the majority of PC rigs support a DirectX 10 video card.
This is according to a recent hardware survey via the download service that showed 56.47 percent of users have either a DirectX 10 or DirectX 11-based card with Vista or Windows 7.
Another 21.55 percent own a DirectX 10/11 supported card while still running Windows XP, which only runs DirectX 9 – sounds like us.
The survey also found that the majority of PC owners used Nvidia cards and had Intel processors, with more than one GPU being in a small minority with only 1.79 percent of systems have the set-up.

Yeah and just when I get my DirectX 10 card, they go and upgrade to DirectX 11. Grrrrrrr!!! It makes my blood boil.

@3 That doesn’t mean its not annoying. Because they’ve moved onto using DirectX11, it means that 10 will get more and more left behind as time goes on.

The PC is the best platform out there. It’s a multi-talented bastard, it can do anything i.e. play games, create games and music, play movies and music, surf the net, stream media, create websites and digital art, and can be used as a phone using VoIP apps, etc, etc.
What do consoles do? Play a few exclusives (most of which are shite), big fucking deal…

That’s a pretty interesting survey. It does hint at quite a big hardware gap.
I love gaming on my PC so it’s pretty high end, but my rig is consistently in the 2-10% range in that survey.
Pretty good argument for consoles, all things considered.
