Ninja Theory stays mum on DMC5 rumours

dmc2

Ninja Theory boss Tameem Antoniades has told VG247 the studio isn’t saying anything about its secret project that was revealed a couple of months ago.

Speaking in an interview published earlier this evening, he, however, didn’t quite rule out the project in question could possibly be a collaboration with Capcom on Devil May Cry 5.

“I can say it is an unannounced game for an unannounced publisher,” Antoniades told us in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago during a Namco press event to promote Ninja Theory’s latest title Enslaved.

When pushed if it was DMC5, he added: “Well, there’s no way I’m gonna confirm or deny if we’ve got anything to do with it”

Not quite confirmation, but not a quite denial either. We’ll bite… for now.

It comes as Capcom announced recently that any new IPs from the company would be made in-house in Japan, with any western studios being brought in to do sequels. This would help strengthen the DMC rumour from the Heavenly Sword devs.

The last Devil May Cry released was Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 and Xbox 360 in March 2008.

Get our full interview with Tameem Antoniades here. New shots of Enslaved are here.

Possibly saving the announcement for E3?

While it’s clear they have the production sensibilities to create something visually and narratively superb, their game design track record – Heavenly Sword and Kung Fu Chaos – just doesn’t cut it for me.

I love the DMC series, but if they are working on 5, I think that’ll be the first one I don’t get.

I sincerely hope this dies as a rumor.

Would Capcom really hand over such a big franchise to a Western dev? Especially something so japanese as DMC?

They handed Dead Rising over. And Capcom’s track record of ‘great decision making’ hasn’t exactly been shit hot of late.

Yeah, but Dead Rising is a zombie game, the West can do zombie games.
Heavenly Sword however was in no way up to DMC standards.

Page 33 of Issue 045 (June 2010) of the “PlayStation Official Magazine UK” within the “Rumour Machine/Insider whispers” column:

“Heavenly Sword dev Ninja Theory is keeping busy – apparently by piecing together Devil May Cry 5″.

However, it will not be the first time that something printed in the magazine has been incorrect.

It might not necessarily be ‘confirmed’ either. Until Ninja Theory and/or Capcom confirm it it’s still just rumour, regardless of how confident any individual news site is of their ‘insider’.
