iPad sells 300k in opening weekend, says Apple

ipad

Apple’s announced iPad sold over 300k in its opening weekend on sale in the US.

The company also confirmed that 1 million Apps were downloaded for the tablet device across the weekend, with over 250k of books sold from its iBookstore day one.

“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world—it’s going to be a game changer,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs said. “iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”

No date has been announced by Apple over when it will reach the UK, Europe or other countries around the world.

Various gaming developers released or re-released several iPhone games to support iPad, including Capcom and Konami, who released Resident Evil 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Touch for the platform.

Thanks, Gama.

Thats actually not much. 6 months and IPad sales are over. First months only Apple fanboys will buy it.

Its really a giant Itouch with weak hardware.

Because it is a GIANT ITouch. Its not that great and people see in that Ipod or Iphone.
I remember the hype behind it when people really didn’t know much about the device.
Devices like that have a potential, but this is a rip off.

Sony just started its own Ipad and they want to fight with Apple. Maybe they have a chance to introduce much better device.

It looks bad, it has a poor resolution screen for its size, and who wants a massive phone. You’d look a bit of a tit walking around talking into your ipad like Dom Joly with that big fake phone.

I really can’t see this being a success to be honest. Since the ipod/iphone, apple haven’t really done a killing in the hardware department.

The Mac Air hasn’t sold well due to it lack of ports and what not and to hits high sale price. Its going to be the same with the ipad as well. It just does almost the same as the ipod/iphone for a lot more money.

:) . All the “it’s a giant iPhone/iTouch” comments are kind of missing the point. That is not a bad thing at all.

@8 LOLWUT?

Tell me, where you are going to use it? In the bathroom? What are you going to do with it?

Even if you are going to read books, its a stupid device. When you read books, you must feel the smell of the real book.
I hate reading books on LCD screen, its just not good.

It’s only stupid because of the price (and the bad design IMHO).

The ability to put thousands of books in one slick device is something that many people prefer.

” When you read books, you must feel the smell of the real book. ”

guess I should also use ink and quill instead of Windows Notepad.

@9 How do you “feel the smell” of a book? :)

I read lots of ebooks on my smartphone. Has a decent sized screen and it’s easy to read, as I’m not totally blind, and it doesn’t strain the eyes.

As there are going to be lots of better specced devices in the next month or so, it’s best to hold off and buy the HP Slate or the new Dell device, especially as the ipad doesnt even have usb ports, or any way of expanding the memory.

@12 you must feel the book in your hands. Book is a book. Its an atmosphere.
for example i can’t read books with ebooks or other digital stuff, it feels unnaturally.

Its the same thing if real famous pianist will play synthesizer and forget about piano. Thats not going to happen never. Natural stuff is always 100 times better.

@11 and you should not use the toilet, seriously. Fail sarcasm.

your perception, your problem Erthazus. yours, not Apple’s or someone else’s.

last time I’ve read a book made of paper was 6 years ago I think, I have all of them in pdf or other format these days, from Asimov to Edgar Poe to programming books.

also, your comparison to famous pianists is out of line. I think you shouldn’t put those who read the book on the same level as it’s author.

@15 i’m not saying that Apple do it wrong. Thats a progress and i accept it, but i have my own opinion and i still buy books at the stores and we have a lot of stores in my country and i read a lot of books (2-4-5 books month) and people who read books say for 95% that to read books with pdf format and other shit is stupid and i understand why. Its just unnatural. Reading pdf and other stuff is just the question of comfortability. I, for example don’t have problems taking books at the university or at the work.

and my comparison to famous pianists is not out of line, i can give another examples without famous pianists. Thats pretty easy and why i put this comparison its because i finished musical school and 100% of people enjoy playing real piano and not synthesizer. Great synthesizers can be from Casio and even they use the real prototypes of Piano and not electrical piece of crap.

Erthazus, just out of interest, what is your first language?

DaMan

well, it was kind of unnatural at first, I’ll give you that. but at some point it was also unnatural to play videogames, people ‘ve been playing turn based table games long before jrpgs appeared.

if you said it isn’t comfortable for the eyes I would understand.

my point was that pianist is the creator, reader is a consumer. it might matter for the first, because it gives him more control over things, or a better setting or something like that.

So over 300,000 Apple cultists bought a very large iPod touch. Good job.

I also have to agree with Erthazus. It’s very unlikely that I will adopt ebooks. I love having my library on many shelves. It doesn’t feel natural to read an ebook to me. I prefer the warmth of the page to the cold plastic of some electronic device.

Writing it something else entirely. I have the writing skills of a grade school child. I’ll stick with typing thanks.

No need to apologise!

I just noticed that you were having trouble with your prepositions and articles.

Otherwise, your written English is very good. Better than some people around here whose first language is supposed to be English, in fact!

Apple iPad is very hot nowadays, it also stimulates the third-party company’s participation. There is not doubt that dvd to ipad converter appeared so actively in the market.
