Killzone 2, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and Resistance 2 added to PS3 Platinum collection

SCEE’s announced that Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift will be added to the Platinum collection in Europe for PlayStation 3.

No prices yet, but they will be out on September 2. You can pretty much bet they’ll cost £20-£25 in the UK, depending on where you look.

    I’m sorry, but I have not played a better game this year then Killzone 2. That or inFamous.

    One of them two is GOTY for me so far.

    Killzone 2 was decent, alot of control issues though, i know GG have really worked to fix them but the game still really needs a toggle crouch/cover in SP imo, with the ‘CoD control scheme’ you’re playing twister with your fingures.

    Killzone 2 was excellent once you got to about the 3rd mission. I played through on the CoD4 type layout and then switched to the default one when playing on insane difficulty.

    The default layout if you can learn it works best IMO but those CoD4 hahabitsre hard to overcome :-/

    Yeah, I agree.. I really wanted to like KZ2 but the shooting mechanics were just too crappy to get over. Randomized bullets are gay!

    Off topic: I agree with comments above about KZ2 controls. Very frustrating. I wanted to like it so much but that made it difficult. Also found the enviornments, as georgous as they are, to be quite forgetabble. I see no reason why they couldn’t simply allow option for a “COD4″ control scheme. Call it an alt name if you wish, but I HATE zooming in with R3 and really prefer a toggle for my crouch.

    Not really, it just means you cant uses every weapon as a sniper rifle, its called balancing.

    hmmm, I play Killzone 2 all the time, both competitively and publicly. Regarding cone of fire (randomized bullets as you say), the best shooters burst fire, even in close quarter action. It’s easily the best FPS I’ve played given my FPS history on both PC and console.

    I dont particularly play COD 4 much, so I guess thats why I have absolutely no problem with the control schemes available.

    I played it on my mates PS3 and thought it was really good.
    Aiming took a little getting used to but it played really well once I got my head around it.

    I too have played every shooter on the market and have since inception. But I do not like the randomized bullets (cone of fire as you say). I want the bullet to go exactly where I am aiming. Maybe I just like precision and not luck.

    Real bullets do not always go where you are aiming (I speak from experience) so why should they hit your target all the time in KZ2? As Gek infers, an assualt rifle is not a sniper weapon.

    Uh.. because it’s a game and not real world. Why pick out the annoying things that happen and say they add realism. In the “Real” world I can shoot, jump, roll and slide do TONS of things that would make Realism in a game fun that haven’t been implemented. Putting in the annoyance and calling it realism is a scape goat for inability to do something properly. Scattering bullets takes the #1 thing in a shooter AWAY from the gamer.. Control over his shots.

    Some gamers like a challenge. Just because you want every bullet to hit smack bang in the middle of where you aim it doesn’t mean everyone else does. And Killzone doesn’t scatter bullets and hitting the target is not luck: stop grossly exaggerating the situation.

    ABSOLUTELY 100% KZ2 scatters bullets… I had a friend that was closed minded also.. till I showed him.. Aim at a spot on the wall and fire a couple times.. you will see the bullets do not go exactly where the cross hair is. ANYONE with a Ps3 and eyes can see this. SO, that being said, when bullets don’t get where you aim and are randomized… that means there is luck involved. It’s not exaggeration its simply obvious. The game just isn’t that good… We just hear about it from all the fanboys because it’s the only shooter worth anything on the PS3.

    Try the same test and do things like aim down the barrel rather than shooting from the hip, and then crouch rather than stand. The scatter gets smaller.

    What you are describing is one of KZ2s finer points and absolutely a good thing.

    What I don’t understand is people insisting every shooter should be exactly what they wanted and never any variation. “All games should control like CoD, bullets should go exactly where I aim, I should win every time …”.

    The variety in gaming today is a very good thing. If you don’t like the way a game plays then quit bitching and play something that is the way you wanted. It doesn’t make the game shite because it’s not what *you* want.

    That doesn’t make any sense at all! People don’t want the bullets to go where they aim??? Next thing you’ll say “Not everyone wants to the car to go in the direction they steer”… WTF! It’s not a finer point.. it’s retarded point. I don’t want all shooters to be like COD, I love Gears also and several shooters that allow my skill of aiming to take precedence over luck of scatter. I’m all for variety, just don’t take the skill away.

    p.s. and I aim the majority of time instead of from hip, yes it’s smaller, still too large.

    It’s finer because it add a little more realism to the proceedings. Real soldiers don’t charge about shooting exactly where they want to all the time. Holding pinpoint aim at something 300 yards away is not practical or possible in the way a controller lets you do. Crouching and firing in short bursts are tactics real people use because they work. It’s nice to have this in some games.

    I loved KZ2 and COD4. In response to DrDamn, by point about having a COD4 control option in KZ2 is because I can’t play my best having to zoom with R3, just as I can’t play my best unless my look is inverted. KZ2 didn’t even give us an option to change how I want my buttons configured so I can play their game to the best of my ability. That was my point.

    It’s not about luck. If you aim better than another player then your shots are still more likely to hit. However if another player crouches and takes aim then they have a better chance of hitting their target too.

    Fair enough – I tried the closest to a CoD control set-up myself and ended up getting “the claw” because of the cover mechanic. Every game should have fully configurable controls though – it’s not like it’s rocket science. I did find using the default controls actually helped understand the controls/gameplay a little better though. Having zoom on R3 and setting it as a toggle worked well once over the initial hurdle – particularly considering the discussion with MushroomStamp on hit mechanics. It fit with the more considered gameplay than the CoD set-up which works well with the more frantic run and gun nature of that series.

    KZ2′s guns actually felt like I was in control of a lethal weapon. I’ll admit, I’m not that big of a FPS guy and I just recently got into the genre, but when I shoot a similar gun in COD4/WAW, it doesn’t have that feeling. Hell, while we’re all here, can someone tell me what is so great about CoD4or CoD:WaW (Beside Nazi Zombie, the best part of WaW)? Is it the speed? Because, I could understand that.

    Indeed, most of the weapons mainly in CoD4, feel more like BB guns even when you unload a whole clip in one go. I really hope IW fix that in MW2 along with the retarded rang grenades can be thrown at.

    I think KZ2 has CoD (atleast 4 & 5) beat when it comes to the feel of its weapons, its just a shame the game suffers from a less captivating SP, overall low number of weapons, no matchmaking system, and a rank system that feels unrewarding.

    The best of either CoD4/WaW is the online element. Rank system, gameplay modes, party system, perks etc. Very well done. Could leave the SP quite happily alone. Very cinematic but too much in the way of respawning enemies for my liking. KZ2 does have this too on occasion, but not to the extent of the CoD games and not so poorly done (imo).
