id planning “third team” for new project

Now-sold id Software is looking to ramp up for a new game by creating a third team, Bethesda’s Peter Hines has told TechRadar.

“They’d like to start building up a full third team and, as a result of this deal, they’ll be able to do that more quickly than they could have previously with the additional resources they have to work with now,” said the exec.

The developer, now owned by Bethesda, is currently working on DOOM 4 and Rage.

“We expect id will keep doing what they’ve always been doing,” said Hines. “And that includes the projects they are already working on.”

More through there.

Never!

From all the interviews being given and reports, id really will just be a separate company doing what they want.

Although, just imagine would could be done with Bethesda game if Carmack was to assist on their engines.

Carmack is ace. Better than all of us.

Personally i would prefer a new Quake game that wasnt licensed out to Ravensoft. In-house developed would at least assure me of a certain amount of quality with the title.

I dispise Activision for not allowing Raven to create a new Heretic title, or reboot the franchise like they did with Doom 3.
Now that Activision doesnt have ID, maybe they will let Raven finally do it. Raven owned that series, and Activision owns Raven.
I can’t understand, with the popularity of fanstay MMO’s and other games, why another developer hasn’t done the fanstay shooter thing.
This generation there hasnt been a good console space sim like freespace, a descent like 3d corridor-tunnel shooter title, a heretic fantasy like title, a mechwarrior-mechassualt like title (Chromehounds is the closest, but its not the same), a XCOM like title, RPG FPS titles like System shock or deus ex (I know a new Deus-ex is coming, and bioshock 1 and 2 are shooters, not RPG)
It seems the industry is only interested in pumping out clones, more of the same SCIFI, Modern, and WW2 FPS titles, open world GTA influenced titles, etc etc.
The industry is mostly stuck in a rut.
