Fallout: New Vegas announced in London [Update]

fallout34

We’re just heard that Bethesda’s announced a new Fallout game – titled Fallout: New Vegas – at its London showcase.

Apparently it’s the same style of game as Fallout 3.

We’re waiting on more detail.

Update: It’s releasing in 2010. Obsidian’s developing.

Update 2: It’s PC, PS3 and 360. Not a Fallout 3 sequel.

DaMan – Not a spin-off. There’s a Gamasutra article with a quote from Pete Hines where he says:

“It’s not Fallout Tactics — it’s not Brotherhood Of Steel. It’s another Fallout game,” said Hines. “It has no impact on what [Bethesda Game Studios game director] Todd Howard and his guys are planning.”

The implication being that Bethesda still plan to do things with Fallout, but Obsidian will do their own Fallout game before then, set far enough away to have no relation to or impact on Fallout 3 or future Bethesda Fallouts.

Me too. It seems like Fallout 3 sold well enough that Bethesda didn’t want to wait until they were done with Elder Scrolls 5 before they could make another one, so they went to a team with a track record of making decent sequels. A team who also happens to have people who worked on the original Fallout games.

This could be very interesting indeed.
