Game Boy is 20 this month

It’s true. The original Game Boy launched on April 21, 1989, meaning you – yes, you – are officially old.
The 8-bit Game Boy family dominated portable gaming from launch until its 32-bit successor, GBA, came along in 2001.
The system was discontinued in 2003, giving it a 14-year lifespan. It sold 60 million units.
Much, much more on 1UP.

I’ve still got mine. Which I bought in 1989. In total, I bought a massive… three games for it. And one of them was shit.

Why do we keep ‘celebrating’ the birthday of dead things?
Particularly things that were killed off by their makers?

We still celebrate Christmas, don’t we?

Do we?
And the method by which Christmas is ‘celebrated’ these days is far from it’s intended meaning or significance.
And, not to get too theological, with no scientific proof of the central geezer of Christmas ever existing it’s hard to claim he ever died.
Unlike a videogame console.

/pats his C64 carefully
It’s ok. I wasn’t talking about you. We’ll always have 1982 and the still-thriving demo scene.

My wooden veneer Atari vcs from 1978 is *still working fine*.
I think I might fire it up and play river raid when I get home

Those Atari VCS joysticks work in a C64 you know. Can’t imagine that sort of thing happening today
Do you have Vanguard? That was ace.
