Gamespot’s finally put its Killzone 2 review live – presumably it’s had enough time to play online to be sure – giving the shooter 9/10. Snip:

You’ll have to look to the inevitable Killzone 3 to find out if developer Guerilla can dig any diamonds out of this series’ rough narrative. Otherwise, Killzone 2 is an exceptional first-person shooter, not because it does anything particularly new, but because it does everything extraordinarily well. There’s certainly no doubting its graphical superiority, but though its moody visuals invite incessant superlatives, it’s the tight, electric action that will make this an off- and online haven.

The game releases today, as you’ll know unless you’re either blind or dead. Watch the Gamespot video review after the break.

    A 9!?
I thought it was supposed to be good.

Right now, I’d agree with the 9.

Just started the second level (E3 2007 one, Blood Merrian) and simply, if you think its okay after playing the demo segment, your so wrong, it gets better.

Really impressed with the score as well.

Still need to play online but right now, its worth every penny from the 399 pennys you spend on it.

SP was an 8 overall for me but I’d wager it’s the MP which will bring the score up for most. Beautiful game… just lacking any sort of compelling story, has utterly forgettable characters (other than Rico, who I’ve started to hate with a passion) and the gameplay is a bit generic / bland. Some really quite frustrating bits too… mostly where they’ve used endless enemy spawns until you cross an invisible wall.

That said. The enemy AI is great, the audio is pretty tasty and I found the Helghast voice work to be quite amusing. Last but one mission is one of the most epic levels I’ve seen in an FPS too. Did I already say it’s beautiful? ;)

I think Killzone’s great and it looks better than anything on console. However, the SP is very repetitive up until the last 25%… looking forward to some MP but generally speaking I’m more into SP games myself.

Good review and the video seems to match what he is saying.
Dwarfs all other FPS games means the bar has been raised once again.
