Wii update kills hacks, homebrew, Freeloader

According to NintendoEverything, a Wii update released today may do quite a sharp job of removing hacks and killing Freeloader.

From the site:

It looks like if you update your Wii, the Twilight Princess save data will be deleted if it corrupted by the well-known exploit. A new update to the Wii system will “check for and automatically remove such save files” that are unauthorized save files. So, it looks like those who wish to update their Wii system will no longer be able to take advantage of the notorious Twilight Princess hack in the future.

Reports are coming in that the Wii Freeloader no longer works with this new update. Also, most have been able to use the homebrew channel, but if it was not installed before the update, it still seems that you will be unable to install it after the update.

Well, we didn’t see this one coming, did we? I’m amazed that so many people bought Freeloader in the first place. It was bloody obvious that this would happen sooner rather than later.

Just have to go back to the PSP system of firmware updates and only do it when a feature you can’t live without comes out or Freeloader find another way around it.

Does anyone know if this firmware update is included with Okami (PAL)? I’ve searched but have found little mention…I downloaded some sort of update from the disc but don’t remember seeing the message shown in the picture.

I never knew those “tools” even existed in the first place!
