Wii U and Splatoon maintain top positions on Media Create charts
Wii U was once again the best-selling console in Japan for the week ending June 7, according to the latest Media Create charts. Once again, Nintendo can thank Splatoon for the uptick.

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition and Xenoblade Chronicle X did well during launch week in Japan, but the big news on the Media Create charts is a massive uptick in Wii U unit sales which more than doubled over the prior week with a 217.6% sales increase.

3rd Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-Hen topped the Media Create charts with 270,669 units sold on both PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, coming in in first and second on the list, respectively. Titanfall also debuted ninth on the chart, moving 10,478 units on Xbox 360.

Hardware sales in Japan surged during the period of March 17 -30, and while it’s common for this to occur during holidays such as Golden Week, there weren’t any holidays in Japan during the period. Instead, Media Create has offered various reasons for the increase in sale.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd was the top seller in Japan according to the latest Media Create charts. On the hardware end, Nintendo’s 3DS LL was back at the top of the charts, after PlayStation Vita took over the week prior.

Media Create has releases its sales charts for the week ending March 23, and amid a week full of new releases, Mario Party: Island Tour outsold all with 132,668 units moved. PlayStation Vita was also the hardware darling for the week with 35,374 units sold, up from 28,270 the prior week.

Dark Souls 2 was the top seller in Japan, according to Media Create. As the only software debut in the top 20, the From Software title moved 255,197 units on PlayStation 3 with the Xbox 360 version hitting 14 on the chart with 5,950 units sold.

The Dragon Quest Monsters 2 remake topped the Media Create charts last week with 443,656 units moved on 3DS. Square Enix’s Puyopuyo Tetris came in second on 3DS with 44, 627 units sold, but when PS3 and PS Vita versions are factored in, the title moved 63,906.
