Halo 5 isn't getting a dedicated Xbox Series X upgrade

343 Industries has announced that Halo 5 won't be getting a dedicated upgrade for the Xbox Series X, but standard next-gen improvements will still be applied to the game.

Over on the Halo Waypoint site, Halo developer 343 Industries has stated that Halo 5 won't be getting the same Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S upgrades that its massive sibling title, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, will be getting.

Last week, Microsoft confirmed that The Master Chief Collection will come to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S with the ability to run at 4K on the Xbox Series X and 1080p on the Xbox Series S, with both consoles running the game at an eye-watering 120fps.

The same, though, can’t be said of the most recent entry into the franchise: Halo 5.

"After we announced the enhancements that MCC would be getting on the Xbox Series X / S, we did see questions rolling in about how Halo 5 would play on the new consoles," says community manager John 'Unyshek' Junyszek of 343 Industries.

"While Halo 5 is not getting the same optimizations for Xbox Series X and Series S as MCC, owners of the next-gen hardware are still going to see the benefits of faster load times and consistently higher resolution gameplay."

That means you can expect to see the game get the same sort of upgrade that many other Xbox One games will get on the hardware, thanks to the Xbox Series S/X’s hardware.

The news isn’t too bad, though; The Master Chief Collection appears to be where most Halo players these days are gravitating to, and has a lot more content than Halo 5: Guardians to enjoy.

And if you are excited about the more modern side of Halo, at least you can take comfort in the rumors that 343 Industries may be shipping Halo Infinite’s multiplayer and single-player game modes separately.
