Desert Bus for Hope has returned for 2017 - watch the second half of this 146 hour charity gaming event
Desert Bus for Hope, a charity event based entirely around a sub-game within Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors, is currently underway.
Desert Bus for Hope is an annual event wherein a bunch of people play the cult classic Desert Bus - part of a never released Sega CD compilation - to raise money for the charity Child's Play.
In Desert Bus, you drive a crappy old bus - one that naturally veers to one side, which means that you can't just press the accelerator and leave it - along a real-time recreation of the highway between Tuscon, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. Each time you complete the trip - which takes about eight hours - you earn one point.
Challenging the player to drive a listing, unreliable, virtual bus on an endless, eight-hour-long strip of highway between Tucson, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada,
The goal of their journey, as stated on the Desert Bus website, is to keep going for 146 hours.

As of right now, the rotating team of volunteers is 83 hours in. They're over the halfway mark! Jump on their Twitch channel if you want to shout some encouragement at them, and if you want to donate some money, you can do so right here.
Desert Bus, by the way, might be getting a sequel at some point. Maybe.
It's worth a watch - they're going to have special guests on throughout the next few days, and you can feel good about not needing to drive the bus yourself.
