The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt RED wants to teach you how to play Gwent.
The Witcher 3 includes an optional card game called Gwent, which may seem like a distraction – but if you want the achievement or trophy for collecting ’em all, you have to start playing – and winning! – right away.
I love Gwent, and I don’t think it’s particularly hard, because it plays like a single-player puzzle rather than a competitive game. But CD Projekt RED’s in-game tutorial is dense, easily skipped and not especially helpful, and it’s very easy to come up against powerful opponents without building a decent deck, so a lot of players struggle with it.
The video below is designed to introduce you to the game through a more engaging medium than tiny text pop-ups. Once you’ve got a handle on the rules, I offer a simple strategy to kick ass at Gwent, which makes it super easy to Collect ‘Em All.
