Uncharted 2 used “close to 100%” of PS3′s “power”
Naughty Dog co-boss Christophe Balestra’s claimed Uncharted 2 almost maxes out PS3′s “power”.
“On PlayStation 3 for our first game, we were using probably only 30 percent of the power of the Cell, and this time we’re getting close to 100 percent of using the power of the PS3,” he said, talking in two making-of movies you can see after the break.
That’s it, then. Uncharted 2 is as good as PS3′s going to get. May as well bin it now, then.
We’re joking. Watch the movies for yourself.

Broussard: Uncharted series “on par” with Half-Life
3D Realms’ George Broussard has pinned Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series up with the very best after playing the heavily-hyped second game.
“Amazing single player experiences,” he said, writing on the Shack forums.
“Nearly, if not, on par with Half-Life 1/2. I haven’t felt this giddy over a game series since Half-Life.
“This is epic badassery right here. Believe the hype.”
Uncharted 2 is on the verge of history, still being listed as the highest-rated PS3 exclusive of all time on Metacritic at 96 percent.

UK charts: Uncharted 2 beaten by FIFA 10 to No. 1
Uncharted 2 has entered this weeks UK charts very strongly, but not enough to usurp FIFA 10 from the No. 1 position.
The Naughty Dog shooter still comes in though at a very respectable second. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising caps off the top three.
Brutal Legend comes in decently enough, coming in at 7.

Wells: 85 people worked on Uncharted 2 by the end
Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells has revealed to VG247 that by the end of the development process, 85 people worked on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves at the studio. That’s not including outside freelancers and contributions from other Sony groups.
“By the end of the project we had about 85 people working on it internally,” said Wells, speaking to us in an interview published last week.
“We also had several contractors helping us in the closing months and we did a lot of outsourcing. Sony also has some amazing support groups that were instrumental in us completing the music, sound, and animation.”
This is in stark contrast to the 500 people who are working on Assassin’s Creed II at Ubisoft Montreal: something Wells thinks would be “difficult” to do at Naughty Dog.
“I think it would be difficult for Naughty Dog to work on a game with a team that large. We aren’t very hierarchical and we expect everyone to be able to work with very little management. That philosophy would probably fall apart with a team that was too large.”
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is out now for the PS3. Go out and buy it now. It’s the shit, innit.

Uncharted 2 would have been “very different game” without Blu-ray, HD, Cell
Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells has told VG247 that Uncharted 2 wouldn’t have been the game it eventually became without PS3′s unique hardware features.
The exec added, though, that differences between PS3 and Xbox 360 games, in the main, are more the cause of developer talent that hardware factors.
“I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3,” said Wells, talking in an interview published today.
“Great programmers and great artists are going to make a great game. Naughty Dog will continue to push the PlayStation hardware as far as we can.
“We’re fortunate that we get to work on a system that has a hard drive and uses blu-ray for storage. Without these things, Uncharted 2 would have been a very different game. What we were able to do with the Cell processor allowed us to achieve a density of polygons and a fidelity to our effects that would simply not be possible without it.
“But ultimately, if we didn’t have a team of very talented programmers and artists, we wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of the hardware and achieve the results that we did.”
Uncharted 2, the highest-rated PS3 exclusive of all time, is available in the UK from today.

Uncharted 2 playable on US cinema screens in Sony promo
Sony has described gaming as an “important part” of pushing cinemas into the digital age as it prepares to allows select audiences the chance to play Uncharted 2 on American big screens ahead of its release later this month.
On October 5 and 6, four cinemas in San Francisco and Thousand Oaks, California, Rosemont, Illinois and Bellevue, Washington, will let viewers play the game on Sony’s 4K digital cinema technology.
Sony reckons this is the start of a change in tack for cinemas that could allow revenues for the cinemas themselves as well as game-sellers.
“This is the first time we’re doing it in a theater. We think it’s a start of something for us, and hope we can build this into a standard element in the movie-going experience,” said Sony cinema chap Mike Fidler.
“Our goal in converting theaters to digital is to go beyond the traditional movie-going experience and focus on helping exhibitors find ways to fill seats.
“Gaming will be an important part of that equation.”
In case you missed it, Uncharted 2′s looking like it might be “quite good”. More on Reuters.
