The War Z returns to Steam
Much criticised survival MMO The War Z is once more available on Steam. Early reports suggest the product is somewhat more polished than at its initial launch, and its marketing materials have been altered to remove the troubling claims which resulted in its disappearance from Steam in December.

The War Z comes under heavy cyber attack, bounces back
Servers for controversial survival MMO The War Z has been suffering “various forms of malicious attacks” attacks, according to a post on its forums. Hammerpoint Interactive believes the most recent issue is resolved, although it’s now tackling a Steam DRM problem. Comments from veteran players below suggest a history of hacking and DDOS shutdown attempts, possibly thanks to the horror efforts scandal-ridden development and launch.

War Z dev issues apologetic open letter following rocky Steam launch
The War Z’s launch on Steam was a bit of a disaster that saw developer Hammerpoint Interactive accused of nicking images from the Walking Dead TV show, charging players for instant respawn and the studio tussling with fans over the game’s policies and features. The game’s executive producer Sergey Titov has issued an open letter to players after Valve pulled the game from Steam, covering many of the key areas of criticism. Check it out below the fold.

The War Z accused of copying Walking Dead images
As if The War Z hadn’t generated enough scandal for one week, Hammerpoint has been accused of nicking images for use in its promotional materials. Kotaku has a series of comparison images showing zombie faces seemingly copied from The Walking Dead, zombie walk photos, and other sources. This isn’t the first time Hammerpoint’s been noted doing a bit of copy paste; it forgot to take League of Legends’ legalese out of engine code shared by the MOBA and horror MMO.

War Z update charging players for instant respawn, Valve investigating policy
The War Z has seen a controversial launch on Steam, with many listed features on the game’s product descriptor being unavailable at release. It gets worse however, as respawning in the game used to take anywhere up to 60 minutes. Following an update patch it now takes up to four hours – unless you pay real money. Valve is now investigating the studio’s policy.

The War Z enters beta, Colorado map increased by 50%
The War Z has gone into beta, and now the 500,000 strong community can play the full Colorado game map, use new playable characters, and look over the additional features added.
