Syfy has renewed Defiance for a second season by greenlighting 13 new episodes. Season two will begin production in Toronto in August for a 2014 premiere. The news coincides with Trion’s announcement of new content headed to the game end of Defiance, which includes five content updates for the year, with each one offering free, paid and micro-transaction items along with a new playable species on the docket.

Trion Worlds was at DICE 2013 this week, and like many other talks which took place during the development summit, this one was recorded for posterity. Below the break, watch and listen as Trion’s Nick Beliaeff and SyFy president Mark Stern discuss the collaboration between their respective firms on Defiance. Defiance is an MMO built by Trion Worlds to tie in with an upcoming SyFy TV series; the upshot of this for us at home is we get to check out the sets of the show, which are likely to appear as in-game environments.

Syfy Digital is ready to launch an exclusive series on its Xbox 360 web app. Nuclear Family highlights a family’s struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic society run by a clan, whose leader calls himself The Man. Of course, the family is also in search of their missing child who vanished in an explosion.

Dishonored will be the subject of the latest episode of the SyFy series Face Off. For those unfamiliar with the show, it tasks make-up and FX artists with completing a designated task and the winner gets to stay on the show. It’s pretty interesting sometimes, and if you are looking forward to Dishonored, tonight’s show should be right up your alley. Face Off airs on the SyFy Channel tonight at 9.00pm EDT. Bloomberg is reporting that along with the rumored Comcast and Verizon deal, Microsoft is talks to bring HBO, Crackle, Bravo, Syfy, and Lovefilm UK to Xbox Live TV. According to the site’s source, an announcement of regarding the expansion of services via Xbox Live could come next week at the earliest. Earlier this month, MS CEO Steve Ballmer said Xbox Live TV would release sometime this year. The latest dashboard update for 360 is rumored to launch on November 15.

SyFy has revealed the cast for its upcoming telemovie adaptation of THQ’s Red Faction franchise, and it’s all cult favourite, all the time. Get set for familiar faces from Terminator 2: Judgment Day; Stargate Universe; Torchwood; Battlestar Galactica; and even The Tudors.
