Update: Guess what kiddos? We’ve decided to liveblog the event as it happens. Should you decide that you wish to stay up till around 1:00am (UK’ers) to check in with us, we will update you as the shit goes down! So, if Jack Black shows up in his undies shooting sparks from his groin again, or should Cliffy B decide to show and announce that Gears is being ported to Wii – we will let you know the second it happens. Not that it will, just sayin’.
Original: Spike TV will broadcast the 2009 Video Game Awards tonight at 8:00pm EST.
To get you pumped for it, you can watch a live stream of the rehearsals going on at the moment, which promised to give you a taste of some of the world premieres expected tonight.

Geoff Keighley talks VGAs, loads of surprises to come

Geoff Keighley has told D’toid that there will be “more than 12″ exclusives, including the announced Crackdown 2, a new Star Wars title, and at least two games he can’t even comment on during the VGAs tomorrow night.
He also mentioned that during the commercial breaks, the show will come back with new stage set ups, thanks to digital environments.
“We definitely have some pretty major surprises still to come,” he said. “Essentially, the biggest thing in the show hasn’t even been announced yet.
“We’re going to keep some of the environments secret [for now] but you’ll definitely get to see that we’ll be transforming a lot of worlds, even some games worlds, as well. We’re working with some game publishers to actually create some of the very cool content.
“You know, I think we do a pretty good job that will get the hardcore excited, but we also have to look at the broader more mainstream audience. Because if I booked ten Japanese RPGs on the show, that might be great for some of the real hardcore guys, but that’s not what’s going to appeal to the mainstream crowd.”
Keighley also revealed that Dead Space 2, Natal, and Sony’s motion controller will not be included in the show.
The full thing is through the link.

Spike VGAs to be broadcast in the UK – now die happy

Looks like Spike TV’s Video Games Awards will be aired on Channel 5 December 15 at 9:00pm.
Sources at Channel 5 told The Lost Gamer that it can also be viewed on Freeview: CH30 Sky: CH 176, and Fiver + 1 Sky: CH 177, Virgin Media: CH 152, Tiscali TV: CH 31.
Granted, it originally airs live on December 12 in the US so by the time the 15th rolls around you will already know the winners.
But at least you will be able to sit back and watch the festivities and possible trouser malfunctions on the telly with beer and chips like the US did three days prior.
Thanks, Seedy87.

Spike VGAs to be without a host for the first time

Looks like Spike TV’s annual VGAs will be without a host for the first time this year.
According to a rep for the network, going without a host will be on par with what it did for this year’s Scream Awards.

- Jake Gyllenhaal
- Kristen Bell
- Felicia Day
- Tony Hawk
- Tricia Helfer
- Alyssa Milano
- Zachary Quinto
- Mike Tyson
- Olivia Wilde
- Snoop Dog (performing)
Hosts from years past consisted of Samuel L. Jackson, Jack Black and David Spade.

GTTV promo teases Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, more

A promo teasing episode 228 of GTTV has popped up, and looks like the latest episode is gonna be full of Mass Effect 2 goodness.
Apparently, not only will BioWare show off new areas of the game, but according to a tweet by host Geoff Keighley, we’ll get to “meet and see the Illusive Man for the first time”. Cool.
Not into ME2? Well, there will also be new details on Alan Wake, new trailers for Command & Conquer 4 and Dante’s Inferno, and a review for Modern Warfare 2.
It usually airs around 12:30am EST on Spike TV, which is technically Friday morning, and snoozy time.
Therefore, expect more on this tomorrow should you not be able to stay awake for it.

Gears of War 2 “Combustible” map pack dropping after midnight* (Update)

Update: It’s out now.
*Well, if you’re over in the Pacific.
Otherwise, according to Spike TV’s Videogame Awards, it’ll be waiting for you when you pop out of bed tomorrow. Or when you get done working. Or whatever it is you do.
The map pack is hitting Xbox Live at 12 AM Pacific/3 AM East. We imagine it’ll emerge elsewhere, too — though no specifics were provided.
Apparently, it’ll add three new locales to Gears 2′s multiplayer mode: “Flood,” “Gold Rush,” and “Fuel Station” — the last of which is a new Horde map.

Poll: Will you buy an Xbox One since the DRM policy has been dropped?
