Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is by the guy who said that Call of Duty is ruining a generation of shooter players. If you’ve been raised on a diet of Activision’s offerings, you may not want to participate in the free Steam weekend for Red Orchestra 2, actually, because it’s unrelentingly unforgiving; hugely focused on realism and teamwork; and has a learning curve so steep you’ll probably tip over backwards a few times on the way up – as opposed to Call of Duty’s fun-from-the-get-go approach. However, if you master it, you can proudly call yourself a skilled gamer indeed, so get out there, kids, and remember to keep your head d- oh, never mind, you’ve got another one. If you like what you see, it’s on sale for $3, which is shamefully cheap.

The music you’ll hear in the video, as well as in the game, was composed by Ben Hollway, who previously worked in a research capacity for HBO’s The Pacific, and Band of Brothers and as a Pacific theatre researcher for the Medal of Honor and Call of Duty franchises. The trailer also features special effects from Richard Dawson, another new member of the team. Beta applications for Rising Storm are now being accepted and you can apply through here. [pic]
