GameStop to open 80 GameStop Kids stores for the holidays

GameStop has announced it will launch 80 GameStop Kids stores for the holidays, where it will only sell games specifically designed for children. The stores will stock games, and game-themed toys ranging from Skylanders Angry Birds and Minecraft. Xbox 360 US bundle prices cut by $50

Microsoft seems to have issued a US price cut on Xbox 360 holiday bundles. As noted by Dealzon, the 250GB Skyrim and Forza and 4GB with Kinect bundles are both now $50 cheaper than RRP at GameStop, Amazon and Best Buy, with the latter two offering free shipping for extra thrift.

The price cut has not been officially detailed, but Kotaku‘s sources suggest it will hold through January at GameStop at the very least.

GameStop interested in Ouya and other open source products, says CEO

Ouya may gain shelf space at GameStop when it comes to market, according to the retail chain’s CEO Paul Raines. Speaking with Joystiq, Raines said GameStop would be “a part of any console launch in the future,” and the firm is fond ideas surrounding open-source components. “There will be games developed for that stuff. So you’re going to see more of these open source type products, and we will be right in the middle of all of it,” he said.

Ouya’s Kickstarter closed in August with $8,596,475 raised.

GameStop’s console streaming service canned

During GameStop’s quarterly earnings call yesterday, the company revealed it has reduced the scope of its streaming games service, Gamasutra reports. Built on technology acquired from Spawn Labs and Stardock, the cloud-based gaming package will now be restricted to PCs, tablets and IP-capable TVs. The service is still expected to go live this year, and GameStop is apparently in negotiation with a host of content providers.
