Bless the early Thief games, but they did require you to have octopus arms to get the most out of them. Eidos Montreal wants the new game to be hard without requiring you to make a keyboard overlay showing off all Garrett’s moves.

Thief’s Garrett will be played by Romano Orzari in the game, according to a new community video from Eidos Montreal. As reported previously, the original voice actor Stephen Russell didn’t reprise his role as full performance capture was implemented into the game. Can’t say it was a bad choice, in my opinion anyway, plus you may recognize him from Assassin’s Creed 2 where he voiced Giovanni Auditore da Firenze. He also played him in Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, the live-action video series.
Thief is out next year on next-gen consoles and PC.

The developer posted an April Fools Day trailer for a retro-style game of the same name, which you can check out through the break.

Here’s a little blip we missed last week; in the same Eidos Montreal blog post where art director Nicolas Cantin backed off from his “less gothic, more mainstream” comments, the developer confirmed pacifist playthroughs are possible. “Players will have multiple ways to approach their objectives and each objective can be reached using Garrett’s various tools, by exploring and by playing with your environment. And yes, you can complete the game without killing anybody – Garrett is a Master Thief, not a killing machine.” Thief is expected on PC and next-generation platforms in 2014.

Thief’s anti-hero Garrett was said to be designed with a more mainstream, less-gothic appearance in an interview last week. The project’s director Nicolas Cantin has explained that he meant more mainstream that previous internal designs, not when compared to previous Thief games. Phew.
