Star Trek Online may get trading, extra officers
Cryptic Studios producer Craig Zinkievich has told NowGamer that Star Trek Online may get trading in future updates. Sounds a bit EVEie.
“Some of the biggest [ideas for additions] were allowing players to play as neutral factions (like traders) or play as an officer on another player’s ship,” he said.
First off, though, players are going to be Kirk-alikes only.
“We… knew that we wanted to get the game out in a set amount of time, and that we wanted to make sure that we delivered a deep and rich experience rather than a whole bunch of thin ones,” he added.
“So we focused on making the Starship Captain experience.”
The MMO’s now been confirmed for a February ship.

Star Trek Online boss admits “really sticky” business problems bringing MMOs to consoles
Star Trek Online dev chief Craig Zinkievich has admitted to Eurogamer that the whole process of bringing MMOs to current consoles is problematic, to say the least.
“I’ll be honest, the business part of bringing MMOs to consoles has been really sticky,” he said.
“Trying to get Sony, trying to get Microsoft to really understand MMOs; really understand what needs to happen for MMOs, and then figure out all the business aspects of those games, has really been a difficulty for all of the MMO developers.”
Star Trek Online is planned for a console release; as was Cryptic’s just-released Champions Online.
Don’t hold your breath just yet.
