Sony’s released an 80Gb PS3 SKU in India, priced 25,990 rupees (£361).

It replaces the current standard 40Gb model and comes with a DualShock 3 in the pack.

“The introduction of high definition gaming and entertainment systems among the Indian audience is the result of extensive research into the entertainment needs and preferences of the next generation of PS3 owners,” said Atindriya Bose, SCE’s Indian country boss.

Dualshock 3 not packaged with Japanese silver PS3 bundle

dualshock3.jpg

And eagle eye award of the day goes to Blerk, for spotting that the “satin” silver Japanese PS3 bundle announced this morning doesn’t, in fact, come bundled with a Dualshock 3 controller. It’s got a Sixaxis in it, so it says here. If Japanese people want a Dualshock 3 they have to buy it separately for ¥5500 (£26). Which, frankly, is rubbish. This also means that Sony has yet to bundle a Dualshock 3 with the machine.

Larger HD PS3 SKU to replace 80Gb version, says rumour

Probably bollocks, but inevitable chatter nonetheless. With rumours of the demise of America’s 80Gb PS3 SKU circulating heavily last week as the result of a “leaked internal memo” from US retailer Best Buy, it was only a matter of time before the internet ran away with itself and started predicting a 120-160Gb replacement.

Sony’s said nothing yet. And we can’t contact anyone to ask, because we haven’t launched.

European gamers can only buy a 40Gb SKU after the 60Gb version was phased out, so all this is pretty much Greek at the moment. We’ll be able to talk to SCEE in an official capacity next week.
