The dust’s settling on the E3 press conferences. Find out what our writers thought of the showings from Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft.

Who won? The best opinion on the E3 2014 press conferences from the VG247 team. Read and profit.

And make sure you’re caught up on our extensive press conference reports.

  1. Joe Musashi

This is the sort of event that a poll would make a lot of sense for. ;)

Ubisoft won for themselves. They get their games into MS and Sony’s conferences plust have a conference all to themselves.

Nintendo’s compact presentation was the best format. The ‘and we have one more thing to show you‘ didn’t really compare to MS’s Crackdown or Sony’s Uncharted 4.

Game of the conferences: No Man’s Sky.
    Surprise of the conferences: Splatoon.
Best presenter: Aisha Tyler. Slick, professional, knows how to handle a golf-clap.

All of the above is fact, not opinion. Just so you know.

    “Surprise of the conferences: Splatoon.”

Unfortunately this game must have been only a dream…

“Nintendo don’t have the infrastructure or tools to support a game of this type. The’ll do MMOs before they do competitive MP TPS. Not that they’re moving in the direction to do either venture.
    Not. Gonna. Happen.”

How I would rank all of the press conferences/events that took place…

Microsoft/Nintendo – Simply for having the focus of games. And they both showed off a lot. Learning more about SSB for Wii U and 3DS was great. The Legend of Zelda for Wii U was fantastic. Microsoft announcing Crackdown at the end was a huge nice surprise, and we got to see Fable Legends finally.
Ubisoft – Started off showing the first 5 minutes of Far Cry 4… which escalated quickly, lol. Showed off more games we knew about and then ended with the surprise Rainbow Six Siege. Fantastic ending!
Sony – No Man’s Sky looks great and it looks like the company didn’t lose much (or anything, really) from their flood. Great! Hearing the news of GTA V coming to nex-gen platforms finally was a nice surprise… but that was really it for me. The Order looked good and Bloodborn looks promising but there really wasn’t much else there for me.
EA – Started off with SW: Battlefront and holy crap does that game look beautiful. Then Mirror’s Edge, The Sims 4 and Battlefield: Hardline… the rest was mostly sports games or Bioware’s games… and while Dragon Age was shown off quite a bit… Mass Effect was only a tease and same with their new IP. I figured we would’ve gotten more of ME at this point. Also, WTF at their golf game! Why is Battlefield 4 invading golf??!?!!? ;)

Overall, it was still fantastic and I’m glad we got to see the amount of games we did!

For me are were equally good, this is the first time that all 3 came on the same level.
But considering past events, for how bad they were, i was surprised with nintendo and microsoft, they exceeded my expectations, while sony did came short, because my expectations were higher due the quality of their pasts events.

overall A great E3 for all gamers regardless of personal allegiance.

you know the posting history. you can read and decipher that reference. it´s not that hard really.
you just don´t want to. or you really can´t but that would be worrying.

Da fuck! Since you can never get any my posts accurately, it just isn’t worth explaining.

  23. Joe Musashi

Easy there, child. Your hypocrisy is showing. Again.

And, at this point there is zero detail on how it will work as an online mp game or how you’re going to coordinate team-play without standard functionality like team chat. Tapping a second screen to teleport to someone’s location is not a substitute for the absence of years old standard functionality used by everyone else. Compare it to the spoken coordination of the Rainbow 6 or BF Hardline demos.

My objective point concerning lack of infrastructure is amply demonstrated by Nintendo in light of what those other two examples show. And there are many more examples.

Remember: your OPINION on lack of standard functionality doesn’t alter the FACT it is still lacking. Petulant point scoring, childish sulking and blatant hypocrisy do not seem to be altering those facts either.

I love it when threads devolve into meta-arguments about who is meaningfully engaging with the topic and who is just having fights.

Wait, not love. The other one. The one where I get out the ban hammer. Desist.

There was no clear winner for me, but that’s because I was digging games from everybody’s conference this year. I’m just so bummed that we have to wait till next year for a lot of them! No Man’s Sky is looking awesome, and I can’t friggin WAIT to play Batman. And I’m really happy that The Order has finally shown a little more of what bad guys you’ll be facing, that monster in the trailer definitely made it more compelling for me.

So many goods delivered man. My wallet’s already aching. Also I’m on the same gush fest that Pat is having over the new GTA 5 ports.

i want to only see you once, just once (once), discuss things with some good will, a joe willing to take a step back when appropriate.

once you´ll be able to manage that and maybe will even be able to stop hiding one or two sideblows in every post, have become a true ninjii (cuz they got honor).

off for some short holidays now. will prolly derail this again later. with a great tan.

the rest was embarrassing in style and presentation. an industry making a caricature out of itself,

there have been a few good looking games though like ori, no man´s sky, the new from game.

most of the stuff shown was hugely disappointing though and it mainly showed an industry that has lost the passion for games. it probably needs another crash at this point.

    1. Entwined
    2. Driveclub
    3. LBP3
    4. Hotline Miami: Wrong Number
    5. Broforce
    6. Titan Souls
    7. Not a Hero

    15. Grim Fandango- Remastered
    16. Let it Die
    17. No Man’s Sky
    18. Ratchet & Clank- Remastered
    19. InFamous: First Light- Standalone DLC

Sony get early/exclusive Betas/features/content &/or for Destiny, Battlefield Hardline, GTA V, Far Cry 4, Dead Island 2, Disney Infinity, Mortal Kombat X, MGS 5: The Phantom Pain & Batman: Arkham Knight.

    1. Forza Horizon 2

    12. Phantom Dust
Microsoft get first dibs on DLC from: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Assassin’s Creed: Unity, The Division, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Evolve.

Now quality is subjective but I’ve gotta give it to Sony since Halo now bores me. Not only do Sony have the better current library(subjective again but they have well over twice as many games that you can play on PS4 that you can’t play on XB1), you also know they have a lot they didn’t show today, games like Deep Down that have already been announced & those that we know Sony still have to unveil, not to mention Sony always saves something for TGS & Gamescom.

@31 “ also know they have a lot they didn’t show today, games like Deep Down that have already been announced & those that we know Sony still have to unveil, not to mention Sony always saves something for TGS & Gamescom.”

Whilst I can see where you’re coming from, I think it’s a little unfair to give credit to a certain conference where you refer to things that weren’t shown or may be shown at another venue altogether.

The same could be true for Microsoft. Did we see what Black Tusk or Rare or other MS studios were doing? Given recent Microsoft comments on Rare’s freedom of options, it could be a big surprise or add diversity to the Xbox portfolio. Stuff we know about wasn’t shown (ie Quantum Break) so shouldn’t MS be earning credit for that if appraisals are to be fair?

I’m just playing devil’s advocate, of course – you openly declare subjectivity after all. ;)

Anyone with a brain (that’s not wrapped up in stupid blind fanboyism) can see Microsoft stole the show. Sony’s show was boring and too long, Nintendo is well, Nintendo, and Microsoft delivered a stellar lineup with what they promised – games.
