Dead Island: Riptide review round-up

Monday, 22nd April 2013 08:03 GMT By Stace Harman

The embargo has lifted on the reviews of Techland’s zombie-follow-up, Dead Island: Riptide. Is it silly-fun or just plain silly? Get the scores through the break.

Dead Island: Riptide is out this week on PC, PS3 and 360 and the review scores have started to go up all around the interwebs.

Dead Island: Riptide is the follow-up to Techland’s co-op zombie-masher, Dead Island, which achieved a respectable Metacritic score of low-70s on console and 80 on PC when it was released back in 2011.

Let us know in the comments below if you have any scores for Dead Island: Riptide and we’ll update the list throughout the day. All scores out of ten except where otherwise indicated.

In the meantime, amuse yourself with a gameplay trailer, the latest screens and read why our very own Ms Brenna H is actually quite looking forward to revelling in the silliness of Dead Island: Riptide.

The game looked kinda lame when I first saw it. And the original was fun for about 2 hours before I got bored with it. Oh well, better luck next time.

Looks like the same ‘Marmite’ scores as last time. I can see why.

i’ve got to be honnest, im not surprised. The 1st one only had a great succes because it was overhypped by a beautifull trailer that had nothing to do with the game.
Techland/deepsilver isnt well known for his great games, actually i think they never did a great game at all..

They are more like the kind of developpers who should sold games a 19,99$ on day 1. They dont have any kind of quality in these games…

Even right now, and i’ve got dead island 1 since it came out, i cant play a game online on my pc… I sent a couple of email to Deep silver and techland but they never replied back… I guess its how a good custommer service should be done … right?

@9 Well most of these don’t necessarily mean a bad game. 3/5′s and 7/10′s mean its probably not polished or something…. Right??? (Never played the original btw)

I didn’t pick up the 1st, and will not be picking this up…trying to play the great games of this gen..before the next, and this isn’t one of them

    @12 hey, fair enough.

I’m just saying that when kingdom hearts was released, I recall it had pretty mediocre review scores, but still became one of my faves. Same story with the monster hunter franchise, I believe. I really couldn’t give a big, fat poopy about this game, but I’m sure for someone out there, this game has a lot to love despite the lack of 9′s and 10′s.

Average scores for an average game.

I agree with you. I have over 20 games still to play on 360 & PS3, including BioShock & Skyrim, so I’m just saying I would rather put the hours in these games, rather then Dead Island…

@17 these scores mirror the video i am seeing. Thoroughly average. Disappointingly so. It seems like what with more would be an expansion pack, but… My goodness, if DS are running the show with Saint’s Row and not Volition, there may be tears!

(question: How much of SR4 under THQ makes it into SR4 under Deep Silver?)

As for whether I’ll be picking it up…No. I have the first, yet unplayed picked up during sale, and IF i ever were to feel the inclination for the sort of game it offers, since it too is also already bought and installed, I’d probably throw on one of the Borderlands – or, return to finish DNF :)

I’m gonna pick it up. According to GameInformer, it’s more of the same formula which worked for me for more than 40 hours in Dead Island.
Dead Island looked nice, was fun playing and was a step away from an ordinary shooters.
    Count me in, I’d say.
It’s just a pity Dead Island has such a bad reputation. Cause it shouldn’t.

i never gave a shit about scores , they are a bunch of stupid bullshit as far as i’m concerned

So glad I avoided this one. First was boring as hell. Learned my lesson not to pre any game I’m unsure about.

I loved the first one. Sandbox melee epicness not to mention online co-op count me in! Preordered this baby for only 32 bucks too.

I’m interested, but it’s just way too similar for the first to be a day one buy for me.

Maybe when it’s on sale over Christmas.

Most of those reviews are not even fair. Launch a Mario game, a FIFA game or even a CoD game and they will say ‘WHOA THAT IS CERTAINLY DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST TIME!’

The original was fun as hell and I am going to pick this up when I have money to invest on more games, for what I have seen it is a 8/10
