Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation composer wins Game Audio Network Guild award
Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation composer Winifred Phillips has scooped a Game Audio Network Guild award for her PS Vita score.
Forbes reports that Phillips' "Main Theme” won the award for Best Original Vocal Song – Choral.

Phillips said of the soundtrack after winning the award, "The music was inspired mostly by the main character of the game, Aveline de Grandpré, who embodied her heritage as a daughter of an 18th century French aristocrat and an African slave.
"What makes Aveline so remarkable is the way in which she reconciles these two contrasting influences and uses them to her advantage. One of my goals as a composer was to represent her character using music, so I knew it was important to find ways for African rhythms and instruments to coexist with the French Baroque style.
"In particular, the more lively string orchestral techniques worked surprisingly well in combination with the bright open chords and driving rhythms of traditional African music. I wanted to make the two musical influences feel balanced and complementary to each other.”
