Project Diva F, Soul Sacrifice and Vita dominate Media Create charts

Wednesday, 13th March 2013 14:52 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F and Soul Sacrifice took the top spots in the Media Create charts for the period of March 4-10, with the former moving 110,229 units on PS3 and Comcept’s debut moving 92,396 units on Vita. The handheld also took the top spot on the hardware charts, thanks to last month’s price drop. While sales were only up 1,038 units over the week prior, it still moved 63,581 units which is considerably better than its recent sales history.

Seven titles debuted for the period, and while Project Diva F came out on top, if you combine the standard release of Soul Sacrifice with its Double Pack, it was the clear winner for the week with 114,446 units sold.

Other debuts for the week included Far Cry 3, which hit the seven spot on the chart moving 33,281 units on PS3, and Crysis 3 which landed at number 16 and moved 9,602 units on PS3.

Moving on to hardware, Nintendo unit sales were down across the board over the prior week, as were sales of PS3. However, PSP sales were up from 11,171 units to 18,023.

Xbox 360 sales were also up from 486 the week prior to 738 units moved. Looking at the top 20, one would wonder why sales of Microsoft’s console were up, but if you look at the full chart over on NeoGAF you will see that it’s likely due to slot 22 – Far Cry 3 – which moved 5,722 units on the console. It was the only title for Xbox 360 to crack the top 30.

Here’s the full software chart for week 10. Life-to-date sales are in parentheses:

Taking into account the double pack at no. 10 Soul Sacrifice was the best selling game overall.

Interesting a price cut with killer apps on day one and next week shows sales skyrocket to the top of charts, now Sony EU and US need to adopt similar techniques.

Very very good. Sales of vita in fact increased WoW.
Bit surprised Media Create didn’t consolidated Soul Sacrifice numbers into one. For a new IP,the game sold really well. Along with digital sales, it would have surpassed 150k.
Hopefully vita sales continue at this level.

And for the FIRST TIME EVER, Vita overtook 3DS in weekly sales!
Sony platforms had 75% of top 20 games.

This is great and all, but we all know it will be short lived. The Vita barely outsold the 3DS with a lot more new software out. When the 3DS got a price cut, sales shot up to 200K. Not to mention Sony doesn’t have the guns in Japan to compete with Nintendo. Dragon Quest VII debuted at almost 1 million units sold. If you guys think Soul Sacrifice sold good, wait till you see Monster Hunter 4′s numnbers. And in October…. Pokemon X & Y. VIta is a great machine, but it just doesn’t have the games to compete with Nintendo in Japan.

It will be very funny if this is the beginning of Sony dominating the handheld market in Japan. I mean, they’re been dominating the console market over there for the last couple years. Would be interesting to see them repeat that with the handheld market.

Hell, all Sony would have to do to make me buy a Vita in the States, is lower the price by about $100 and I’m not alone on that.

    @5
thats more wishful thinking. How is sony going to dominate the handheld market without monster hunter or dragon quest?

You think these sales are good by sony? When nintendo cut the price of the 3ds3$ds the system sold 200k! What happens when monster hunter 4 comes out? And pokemon x and y?

Sony had an ok week but the vita just doesnt have the games to beat nintendo in japan.

Patcher must really be feeling it now.

@6 They will, they are SONY

I mean shit always go wrong with them, yet they do overcome their challenges (E.G. Soul Sacrifice seems way better than Monster Hunter).

The 3DS only sold after the price cut, and not even the PSP could beat DS and DSi, even when MH was a PSP exclusive.
