So can we finally rule out the Wii U being next gen and just current gen by evidence like this. I mean its getting a year old port of a game and won’t be visually any better. Anyway I’m sure the PS4 has silenced all the zealous Nintendoids around here on what a next gen console is suppose to be like.

Sad Nintendo dug themselves into this hole. Would have been awesome to see a Metroid or Zelda with KZ4 graphics.

@1 iam quite happy with my WiiU right now, and PS4 didnt made any impact in what next gen suppose to be like, dont get me wrong i will get one as soon as arrives in my country, is that i love nintendo games and a very different console, i like that nintendo it is on his own space, thanks to that we have diversity, and as a gamer i cannot be happier about it, though iam more concern with not game related things like always connected online and going all digital, though, but that hasnt anything to do with games, nintendo is doing fine and will do fine long live nintendo.

I don’t think KZ4 graphics are anything amazing tbh. I know blashpemy to some. But they looked nice. I really liked the draw in distance. But they didn’t blow me away. Nothing with PS4 graphicly did.

Nicer then current gen, and ofc nicer then WiiU. But that was to be expected. Too early to know anything for sure, but the graphics thus far from PS4 looked, to me, like an evolutionary step. And not a big one at that.

I mean KZ4 was locked in at 30fps according to Digital Foundry.

Good stuff for sure, I am leaning more and more Sonys PS4 over MSs Xbxnxt every day. But the graphics weren’t mind blowing. Just sharper, cleaner, shinnier.

And as always seemingly is the case, I will say again graphics don’t mean much. They don’t make current gen games less fun because of their graphics. I have some PC games that look drop dead gorgious. And I have some that don’t even look as nice as ps360 games. I play them because I enjoy them.

I think the real sad part of all of this will be that WiiU will be judged so harshly on what its games look like. Because that is sort of what we have boiled down to: a quick glance and instant pass or fail based on graphics.

I will still enjoy, I hope, Metriod, Zelda and more on WiiU with less then KZ4 graphics. I expect those games to be crisp, colorful and prolly loaded with the gameplay that I will enjoy.

Equaly as sad is this type of thinking:

“Anyway I’m sure the PS4 has silenced all the zealous Nintendoids around here on what a next gen console is suppose to be like.”

Where is it written that one can’t enjoy both?

I know Tea owns and enjoys a WiiU. And I agree with him that Nintendo seemingly has miscalculated the market space with its WiiU. I am just very tired of the labels and the bashing. I am not calling you out on this Tea, was in refernce to someone else that needs to drag Nintendo into almost every thread.

PS4 looks nice, I am mildly excited about it. But the way the store “learns” me – not impressed with. The share feature – not impressed with. And a few other things I am hoping to learn more about down the road.

Just an fyi Tea, you can expect to see, from your perspective perhaps, legions of Xbots flocking to PS4. Why? Because most people don’t hate Sony. Or MS for that matter. Most of the people that chose Xb360 over PS3 did so not because they dispise Sony, but because they didn’t like PS3. Sony won 2 gen in a row. And most of the current xbox crowd(if they played games then) played on a Playstation. There is a really good chance that those people will revaluate the choice between MS and Sony offerings. If MS push Kinect(and it looks like they will) lots of people could pick PS4 first this time around.

I am sure it will make you feel like a proud father lol.

If Sony can offer their system first, for less money good chance it will take off. Two things they didn’t do last gen. Just the way it works. And besides most of us here will prolly end up owning both systems at some point anyway.

“Just you wait till thw WiiU Mario launches!! Then thw WiiU will fly off the shelves”!!!!!!

Riiiiiiiiiiiight ;) Don’t hold your breathe this is Nintendo we’re talking about. That have a excellent track record of being late to the party :D

@3 I love the Wii U too….thats why I bought 2 of them day 1 because this is the Nintendo console I wanted since PS3/360 launched but if you think I’m going to buy this game for the Wii U after its been out for other systems including the Vita(!!!!) then you’re crazy.

I don’t even own a copy of the game but like I said trophies/cheevos/cheaper price for PS3/360 isn’t going to help the Wii U to sway my preference. Its just a great example and evidence that the Wii U is not next gen, but yet a catch up console. How do you make billions on the Wii and not have a proper Mario or Zelda at launch of Wii U?…. But tons of ports of old games from 2 years ago.

Oh how the mighty have fallen ;)

  6. Erthazus

@Oldergamer, you were so right about next gen graphics. I thought that the leap will be big, but you were so right.

Leap is not that big compared to last gen.

    you are awesome, OG.

    #6 2 years ago
  7. ManuOtaku

@ I think is not a catch up console, in that regard i think sony and microsoft did create both consoles ahead of the time, HDtv tech are now with a hight adoption rate since the 2010, therefore now i beleive is the right time, i think both sony and microsoft did had an early slow adoption rate because of this, the cost of the console plus the tv set, and thats why since 2010 both consoles almost catch up the wii in terms of sales, so i believe in terms of HD tv gaming goes, and by that i mean graphics, it is not a catch up, in other related things like online, trophies, certainly it is.

And for not having a proper mario or zelda at launch, i think they did want third party titles to do good numbers, they know that their titles crush the third party ones, heck even the new 2d mario sold 2.5 million copies, thats almost 1 on 1 comparision, imagine what would happened if they did released mario or zelda, zombie u and the others would not sold well, at least they gave it them the chance.

“I don’t think KZ4 graphics are anything amazing tbh”

I said the same thing about Perfect Dark Zero when the 360 showcased the unveil on MTV in 2005….then a year later Epic released Gears of War and I said …..nice bluff Microsoft…nice bluff indeed ;)

Please don’t make the error that the KillZone you saw last week was finished product or a product of final PS4 specs. I’m sure you’re aware too that all launch titles at the beginning will never show off the true power of a new console. I’m sure Shadow Fall is just a little tease until they release KZ4 3 years into the PS4 console life and then your jaw will hit the floor.

I would respond to the rest of your comment but why. You fail to see my point in the beginning which is detailed in my comment @5.

    #8 2 years ago
  9. ManuOtaku

@8 i agree , but that also applies to WiiU, hence the graphics will also get better too, not like ps4 but it will be good, the difference will not be as big as this gen.

Erth, i did also made the same prophecy T_T, as a matter of fact i will verify who was first, i mean OG or I ;).

Of Course its Current Gen, it can’t be the Next thing that comes when its already here. And the PS4 is too Current Gen the Day when its on the Market, and then WiiU and PS4 are both Current Gen.

Next Gen is Future, and it isn’t Future anymore when its available. And is has absolut nothing to do with Build-in Hardware. NOTHING.

  12. ManuOtaku

@11 it might be that way, but there is numbers that at least give some support to that notion , of course it can be coincidence, or not, but it makes for a great analysis and debate, at least is a possibility, that is way better than calling it delusional bullshit without giving reasons for that assestment.

“Next Gen is Future, and it isn’t Future anymore when its available. And is has absolut nothing to do with Build-in Hardware”. “NOTHING”.

LMFAO I think this may tie you for 1st place ManuOtaku :D

Ok my current gen PS4 will be leaps and bounds beyond your Wii U. Don’t get a PS4 ok because they’re the same product according to you Bomba….LMFAO :D can’t wait to see what version of Call of Duty people pick….the Wii U version or the PS4/720 version.

I bet if you walk in a store right now and only had $50 to buy this game in the article you’d buy the PS3/360 version over the Wii U at a much cheaper price. Which was my main point in comment #1. Wii U is a catch up console not next gen like the Nintendoids cry about.

Its just really sad that every week all we see are 1-2 year ports getting announced for Wii U….Next week it’ll be Borderlands 2 lol…..but no Tomb Raider for the supposedly next gen console??? LMFAO

    #13 2 years ago

#13 instead of that i would have appreciated a rebuttal on my point, and for that giving reasons why you say is delusional and not worthy to be considered a possibility, but oh well beggers cannot be choossers i supposse ;)

  15. OlderGamer

I think that Nintendo just operate in their own space is all. I don’t think they ever sat down with the ambition of trying to out power MS or Sony. The goal for Nintendo is to sell their first party games. That is why they still make hardware. And they do that very well.

But because PS4 and Xbxnxt offer so much of the same services and even games, I only need one. At least for the first few years of their lifecycles. I kind of like that WiiU is different. I love the gamepad alot. I would like it to have some more power sure. Can say the samething about PS4. But, for me, power really doesn’t define the fun factor. I know it will for some.

But I believe graphics are very close to deminishing returns anyways. They all look pretty nice. Just a matter of nicer.

    #15 2 years ago
  16. Dragon246

I hope it sells decently, 3rd parties have been leaving wiiu left and right.
I also think from next gen onwards, we will see the law of diminishing returns take full control. Although next gen still is a very visible leap. And mind you, more power means much more than prettier graphics. Improved AI, larger worlds, and so on. For an RPG fan, next-gen is always better.
Also, the footage of KZ available is of a poor quality, as said by DF itself. But its definitely a giant step from present-gen.

I believe we are past the time when exclusives sell systems. Zelda, Mario and so on wont attract anyone outside of ninty fans. Mario sold well since ninty fans buy ninty consoles for ninty games. A console with a bare minimum 3rd party support looks like a recipe for disaster for me.
Off topic, but 3rd party pubs are completely justified in their non-support. Ninty never worked on good terms with them. Draconian ninty publishing requirements of 80s and 90s are stuff of legends.
    And this-
I believe they will still be profitable with wiiu biz, like GC was (unless they go aggressive with pricing) , but they are living in their own bubble now, and almost irrelevant to the industry at large, in terms of revenue at least.

    #16 2 years ago
  17. Bomba Luigi

@13 “because they’re the same product according to you Bomba….LMFAO”

I don’t say that anywhere. Of course they are not Same, next box and PS4 are too not the Same, so… which is then the Next-Gen?

Next-Gen ist only the Next Generation of Gaming Consoles. The WiiU was the next after Wii, PS4 is the next after PS3 and so on. Thats all the Term Next-Gen is saying, what kind of Consoles that are is a complete diffrent Question. And we too have PCs, they don’t even have Generations, so no Next-Gen at all

Its the Same with Humans. You geht Childerns, that are the Next Generations in your Family. You may have more than one Kid, and they will be all diffrent People, but they all the Next Generation, no matter what kind of People they are.

    #17 2 years ago
  18. ManuOtaku

@ 16 I think exclusives sell systems, especially if they offer the same thing, if it was not for the sony exclusives i wouldnt had gotten the ps3, and the same for microsoft, now if they would had offered very different things in terms of gaming, that would not matter IMHO, but for consoles that are almost the same or do offer the same things, exclusives are a must, and i believe it will be like that in the future too.

And i do believe nintendo is relevant, if they werent they would had end up being the way of the dodo, or like sega, but as long as they keep selling good numbers on software and hardware in handhelds and home consoles, they will be relevant, now if they would end up being like sage, that they were almost irrelevant on both fronts at the end of their hardware era, or being close to that picture i would had agree with you.

    #18 2 years ago
  19. Dragon246

You read that article? I only talked about revenues.
And I clearly don’t see ninty franchises having that cache that they had earlier. Wii didn’t sold well because it had smg or mario kart, motion controls did it, which in turn helped other software sales.
Exclusives matter, but not when it has nothing else to offer. Exclusives are like the cherries on a cake, which is mostly made up of 3rd party games.
You dont buy a cake just because of bigger cherries now, if the cake itself is missing.
    Ninty will realize this soon.

@13 “Its just really sad that every week all we see are 1-2 year ports getting announced for Wii U….Next week it’ll be Borderlands 2 lol…..but no Tomb Raider for the supposedly next gen console??? LMFAO”

What does this has to do with anything, is the developers who wants to bring or not the games to a console, for multiple reasons, not just the power alone, like when mass effect or other games that grace the 360 werent available on the ps3, that did came later on in its lifecycle, i bet it was not power the reason, the same here, theres a lot of reasons for that.

As for the WiiU being next gen, it is , it brings something new to the table that was not available before, the asymetrical and assynchronous gameplay with the gamepad, and an slight better performance in graphics, a console to be consider next gen just have to do something new, with new tech, in any category being service, way of gaming, graphics, etc, in that regard the wii u can be consider next gen.

I put an example if an holographic console that outputs the past generation graphics on holographic form like in star wars movie, shouldnt be consider next gen, just because the graphics cannot be meassured in pixels? i think it is next gen, because it is a new tech regardless of graphics, therefore one might say next gen means much more than graphics alone, it just needs to bring new tech to the table on any aspect, being service, gameplay, graphics, etc

As for the ports i do get, i do get the best ones regardless of console thats why i did bought red dead, bayonetta on 360, darksiders LA noire on ps3, and if the better version comes to the WiiU i will get it there, like ninja gaiden, or if it uses the gamepad in a neat way like colonial marines, therefore the WiiU will not be an exception, i will get the best game on the best available console, now the people that only owns a WiiU, why they cannot experience those games?, even if they are not as the others, why is that bad?, i think is great for them even if in the future they are in scalable form, it will make some gamers happy, dont see the bad in two years later ports, you are quite happy with diablo on sony consoles dont you
