VG247 community’s GOTY 2012 results: And the winner is…
The votes are in. Ant & Dec are stood on stage. Three hopefuls await the ultimate prize from the VG247 community. Which title captured your imagination for Game of the Year 2012? Read on to find out.
Plenty of big-hitters have already featured in part one of our GOTY rundown. With the likes of Mass Effect 3, Halo 4 and Borderlands 2 already out of the way, it’s time to dish out our bronze, silver and gold medals for the Olympic year.
A huge thank you to everybody who took part in this. Without you, VG247′s Sam Clay wouldn’t have produced a video of such gaming wonderfulness.
Special mention once again goes out to forum members Dragon 246 and Bitsnark for overseeing the voting process. Also, a massive thank you to Michael Ireland for coming up with the idea. Much appreciated, peeps.
What do you think of the results? Let us know below.

@People,
Seriously, you are free to disagree, but this has been an open process. Vote for your pick if you want them to win.
And I would like to thank everyone involved in this process and I hope it gets much bigger this year

I actually voted for Okami HD first time around, but later bumped it out on account of Far Cry 3, as despite it definitely being the best single game of 2012, the truth is that it is of a different age… AN AGE OF LEGENDS!!!

Not actually a bad top three. Not bad at all. That’s restored some of my faith in people, though personally I would have put Mass Effect 3 where Dishonored is as it definitely deserves it more. The ending of ME3 was clever, rather than the same old “You saved the Universe! Here, have a segway!” shit that we get shovelled down our throats on a regular basis.
Oh no, the Universe might actually be screwed because of all these people so far from home! The reapers could help them, but will they accept the aid of the reapers? Destroyed the reapers? Well, we might be truly fucked! It was a great concept, and it actually had the nads to give the finger to anyone who chose destroy (small-minded types that they are). But at the same time it still gave everyone those choices. You were allowed to make a bad, even stupid, choice and you had to live with the consequences.
For someone who’s able to see the obvious, the reapers were never truly evil, and the boy was just the catalyst trying to communicate and hoping for an exit route this cycle. They were just machines locked into a single choice, the first choice they made, programmed to be that way by an apex race of bloody stupid and arrogant people. (This is why paranoid security is bad.)
What do you think the Crucible was? It was basically a giant USB drive with a security hack. One that allowed the catalyst to act upon other choices that it realised could work since the original choice it made.
Y’know… our end is probably going to come much the same way: Borne not of evil people, but stupid and arrogant ones.
It was clever, for that reason.
BUT HEY, NO SEGWAY, AMIRITE?
Sigh.
People.
So, yes, I’d have put ME3 where Dishonored is. For at least having the balls to do something different, and to be different.
