Halo series moves 50M, next game in early development

Microsoft has announced that the Halo series has moved 50 million since its inception in 2001. It has also been confirmed by 343 Industries that the next titles in the series is also "in early stages of development."

The seven games in the series sold 46 million units before the launch of Halo 4 in November 2012 (via Gamespot), meaning Halo 4 has sold around 4 million copies. The game earned $220 million during its first 24-hours at retail.

As far as a new Halo title is concerned, 343 Industries' Frank O'Connor has told CVG the team is currently prototyping ideas, software, and art. Microsoft has said previously a second trilogy in the Halo will be released.

"I can't say more than that, but work on the game started actually before we launched Halo 4 and continues apace as we cycle staff through the team's vacation breaks," he said. "We're excited about the next game."

O'Connor also said a second season for Halo 4's Spartan Ops is still up in the air, as the team is "looking at how the first season does," before deciding.
